Installing driver door handle on a 944
The part that keep the door handle linkage to the handle broke, I bought a used one on Ebay and I been trying to get the linkage on to the ball on the latch mechanism for 2 days witout any luck, I can get it installed with the handle pointing the wrong way but does not do me any good.
My car is a 89 2,7 liter 944.
I been searching the forums here, and also the installation procedure on Clark garage, and I been following the installation procedures, so any idea what I am doing wrong?

Here's my thread on how much of a it is to install your door handles. It's a get lucky kind of deal. I still to this day don't have it working correctly. My handle works but if I lock my door, I can't unlock it! Good luck!!!!!!

The internal part of the handle broke on one of my aero handles about a year ago so I had to buy a new one have it painted and install it. It looks so easy on Clark's but is a royal PIA.
Like Po924S said, "it's a get lucky kind of deal". If you have good paint on the car tape up the area around the door handle to avoid scratches. I didn't have mine apart nearly like you do. I did it with the locking mechanism still installed. Yours is out which may make it a bigger PIA as you have so many moving parts and that plastic piece is the bear. That plastic piece goes on a small round metal piece that I believe to be part of the keylock assembly. Its hard to get that plastic up near the hole where the handle goes in. I used a long screw driver and lots of swear words. It was helpful to shine a flood or shop light into the interior of the door so you can see what the hell you are doing. Good luck.

if i am not wrong its the plastic piece that screws down on the end of the rod.
first a little grease on the ball then i think i used a needle nose to hold the ball then a flat screw driver to press the clip on to the ball.
also if you look closely at the clip there is a small notch or indent on 1 side, that should be the side to go on the ball, if i remember correctly...

When I did mine (2x) I used a REALLY long flathead screwdriver, A small LED flashlight that you can secure in the door to light up your work area, and a magnetic retrieval tool. The magnet tool helps you line up the plastic thing with the ball end. It's a matter of just working slowly and making sure stuff is ready to line up. when the plastic dog bone is placed on the ball, push it in using the entry hole as a fulcrum. It all goes in pretty easy but the hardest part is lining it up. Make sure you do it in a dark area so the sunlight doesn't screw your vision up. If you can't do it indoors, use a jacket to cover up and let the flashlight light up the area. It makes it easier... at least it did for me.
Good luck!
