Default Car smells hot

I know this one is kind of hard to diagnose but here goes anyway. My 951 smells hot even after just a short drive. The car doesn't run hot, unless my temp gauge is giving a false reading (I don't think it is) and there are know fluid leaks. Any ideas?

or does it smell like oil around the turbo burning. I know my hood insulation is on its way out. small pieces of it fall and burn.

No, not an exhaust smell at all. More like a burnt oil smell but as I said there are know fluid leaks that I know of. Hood insulation is in tack. I know this is a weird one. To bad I can't add an smell attachment or link to the post.

when I think of a hot smell, the first thing that comes to mind is the smell of hot electrical components. Like wires grounding out or a circuit board frying. Does it smell like it would be something like that??

Check the rear cam cover gasket, might be dripping on the crossover. Could be just enough to smell but not enough to drip on the ground. 4 out of 5 944's that come through our tech's are leaking from that gasket.

Thanks, good thought. I had a 89 NA that had that problem. I'll check it out tomorrow.

What's the process for checking it and if it is plugged is there a remedy other than replacement? What's the down side to driving it with the cat plugged? I'm beginning to think this may be the problem because the engine compartment seems to be awfully hot. The car is running fine though.

actually, I'm having this problem too. granted I had different things going on.

I bought mine for $1000 so I was expecting problems, no complaining from me. I noticed it was leaking radiator fluid...alot.

Turns out the hose wasn't tightend down enough. Easy fix, no problem. Now I'm having problems with the fact that the main fan doesn't come on ever, and I have to try to cool it down with the A/C fan. This works....sort of.

Also, is it common for 944's to leak water (like water coming off of the condenser) like no other when the A/C has been on in hot weather? On top of other things, this guy made a rat's nest of the stock radio wiring just so he could have a phone in the car (this was in maybe 95?)

Other than this stuff, the car runs great!

A plugged Cat will sound like air rushing through a small hole (think vacuum) at the rear, the engine will lose power as it gets to running temp and will glow red hot.
My bet would be an oil or A/F leak or as you mentioned a faulty sensor and you really are running hot.
