Default 968 how does the interior age

Hi all,

I currently tossing up whether to add a 968 CS to my Porsche stable, I have yet to see the car in the flesh but from all reports the right money has been spent to maintain it in all the right areas. I am wondering how the interiors age.......ie is the build quality still good after 16 years. I do believe in driving cars everyday or as much as possible so it will be a daily drive type of car.

Any advice is most welcome.......

thanks in advance

^^ If well taking care off the 968 interior will age well this is my 17 years old 93-968 with a little over 80,ooo klms -approx 50,ooo miles on it.Most 968 owners be cab or coupe are usualy proud of their cars & will take very good car of them.If you ask the same question here on the 968 Rennlist Forum peoples will send you pics of their car interior with lot more mileage on it then mine & I've yet to see a bash up one.Not saying they are some out there witch has not been abuse, but it's very rare from a 968 owner if it is.

They age the same as any other Porsche, it really depends on the prior owners willingness to take care of it.

the headliner is not a concern... it's beautiful and will last longer than you.

the sun will affect the door, rear window sills and dash.

the seats will wear and crack.

i sanded the dead vinyl off my dash and door sills starting with 80, and moving to 120 and then 180... (several hours of sanding), and refinished all trim pieces with SEM vinyl finish. had the entire front interior done in a couple of days.

changed the color of the front of my interior from grey to black. the result was great.

the carpet required a lot of dye to get it from grey to black. i've used a couple of differnet products.

dumped the old seats, but saved the sliders and modded them to for the new sparcos.

the stock speakers can all be changed out for larger, beefier units.

the stock steering wheel should go. nice to change it out for a beautiful 968 clubsport wheel (like in Ernie's photos) or 996 wheel/airbag (which requires machine work to fit).... the stock shift ***** will probably be sort of ratty -- and you can change that one out for a 996 **** with the help of an adapter from 928 motorsports, or a 987, 997 ****.

you can dump the old stereo head for a nice blaupunkt or alpine unit...

Thanks Ernie, your 968 interior looks brand new.......amazing pictures.

I am not scared to spend the money to maintain the car or interior......and i am willing to take care of it.

I am in the process of restoring a 1972 911S, and bought a Boxster S as a daily drive but i am really attracted to the 968 shape.......hopefully will see the 968 CS in the flesh this week, any other advice i am open to suggestions / advice of current 968 owners

Grays are the worst, they tend to turn a brownish purple due to UV damage.
I've never seen this on a black porsce interior, but I'm sure it's happened.

Me, I'd say stick with black, it's very durable same as any 944.

My '86 interior still looks new other than the one inch scratch on the drivers side seat bolster. Other than that no rips or tears. Alot of it is the owner and the upkeep. You have to fix and clean things as they happen and not let them pile up. But that's just me.

Kev___ is rigth all depend on the owner & what he's willing to do to upkeep his car. This was my 83-944 after 27 years (sold it last years) to a guy witch will probably keep it that way for a long time .In 27 years the only thing done to the interior was to have the driver seat (bottom recover) & retinting the shift boot & ****.

Sorry!
But those pedals just don't work with the interior.
A little tacky?

LOl_____ Agree they were redone prior to selling the car I color match them to the car exterior color witch was platinum metz.At the same time I did intstall flat face lens in the instrument pod getting ride of those awful conical lens should have done that years ago ,what a difference it does on those early cars unbelievable.
