94 968 - vacuum canister near battery
While replacing the battery on our 94 968, I seem to have broken the nipple on the vacuum canister behind the battery. I have a no start now - is this the reason? I need to use the car NOW. Can I plug this line to get by? Or drill out inlet to canister to match o.d. of vacuum hose for temp fix til I can order part? How could i seal?
I have family emergency and must drive asap.
Help.

I'd thinking plugging the line would work. First, you want to make sure there are no leaks that let un-metered air enter the intake system... However, I'm surprised that that air leak alone could cause a no-start condition.
The downside to not having the vacuum reservoir is that you might have intermediate functionality of the HVAC system controls. When you're going up hills (and more on the throttle) you'll create less vacuum, so the heater valve might start opening up, causing warm air to blow through the system. On the way down hill, you'll ease up on the throttle, creating more vacuum, and the system will return to functioning normally.
