Bike Roof Rack for 944's
Any one running a roof rack to carry their bikes on their 944? Post some pictures if you are please.
If not a roof rack, I'd like to see how folks are carrying their mtb's or road bikes with their 944. Right now, I'm just removing front wheel & seat - but it gets old having to clean the darn carpet of mud/dirt every time.

I need to take a pic, but I carry my road bike in the hatch, oobviously, the rear seat is down. Fits great. Just remove the front wheel. Plenty of room for helmet, shoes, etc, and change of clothes. The frame is a 56.

I just pull the wheel, don't have to mess with the seat. I vac the hatch area a lot
Same thing during snowboarding season, it all goes in the hatch, which is actually good as i don't take a gas mileage hit by having all that crap hanging out in the wind.

mhr,
Do you think your bike rack would clear the wing on the coupes?
Pete,
I carry my bike in the hatch at the moment as well, just remove the front wheel & seat. I was wanting a rack mainly for longer drives where I'd have to carry luggage in the hatch, etc.

I would think so. The arms are quite long and move to any articulation. You could probably use much the same config as I do and just open the top bar higher to clear the wing.
In my config most of the load ends up on the bumper and the top is just for stabilization.
If you have a local store that carries Saris racks I am sure they would do a test fit.

If you decide to go the roof rack route, I have the correct fit kit for the 944 series to be used with the Thule Aero feet, towers and crossbars. Let me know if you are interested.

-coupe
-no rear seat back
-autopower roll bar
-60cm road bike
-best single bike carrier ever
the bike sits perfectly flat. you just have to remove the front wheel and rotate the non drive side pedal around so it drops down by the rear seat bottom. then i put the front wheel in a wheel bag and sit it between the passenger seat and roll bar.
(the bike now wears white bar tape, a record chain, and tan sidewall tires)

I have a saris bones rack I use on other cars the arms will clear the tail. What is bad is the only place to attach to is the window frame. I would worry about possible risk of delaminating the window. They recommend in the instructions to attach it to metal frame only. I am just going to put down a heavy moving stlye blanket. I mountainbike frequently.

Nice road bikes guys!
I would have no problem to keep carrying my bike in the hatch, but I do mountainbiking and the bike can get mighty dity/muddy at times.
Guys with roof racks for your bikes/ and or tires , are the racks making imprints on the roof, etc.?

Mark, when did you start biking? Thinking of taking up road cycling in the future? I've been wanting to bring my bike north of Atlanta for a few scenic routes - hopefully you will be able and around to join!

I used to get two road bikes in covered with a blanket. Wheels out on top the blanket.
You can put a plastic dust sheet in first to protect the upholstery.
I like that Tommasini frame above, used to have one myself..
