Default Which heads are interchangeable?

I have an 1986 944NA. I found a good deal on a head. It looks like my head, but the guy thinks it is out of a early(82 or 83) 924. He is checking in a cross reference book at his machine shop to see which heads will and won't fit.

Pic of said head.

924s only had the 2 liter VW bus engine, or the 2.5 liter that 944s had. That one will fit.

I don't know about the VW bus having a 2.0 924 motor, but that head is from a 944 type.

To be certain, you could just look at your casting number on the side of your head----poke around.
The number of my '87 head is 944 104 033 06
The number of my '88 head is 944 104 033 08
Early 944s to '85 used 944 104 033 05

Compare the numbers of yours and the other. Most heads are interchangeable for the NA with slight differences

My bus had an air cooled flat 4.
914 motor, or so the dealer said.

Anyone know if a 16 valve head will fit on an 8 valve block? I know the S pistons would have to go in there to match the 16v head. Just wondering if I can use an 8v block.

yes. nuts/studs/head gaskets are the same.

if you want a 16v motor buy the whole car...lots more than pistons to change.
