Default 3" throttle body on an NA. Finished. 56k get DSL..

Well, my father(ben waite) has some deep seeded determination to extract as much as he can from his NA. I try to convince him to pressurize the intake, but I think with his middle age it scares him a bit.

Once it was mine, but we traded. I am more of a tech guy, than a rennlister. I moved onto Volvos, but he is keeping the orange machine going.

Welp, the tiny TB the porsche came with apparently pissed him off. So he decided to put a bigger one on. He ordered up a generic eBay brand 3" TB. After we received this monster, we realized the 65mm might have been a better choice, but it worked.

We bought a plate of aluminum, made a flange, did some beveling on the stock intake manifold, mocked up some old intercooler piping I had, had it welded, drilled out some vac lines and blamo. 3" TB. Oh and extended the stock throttle a few inches.

I am sure he will chime in on the difference it made. Friday is track day so we will see

The throttle body:

The flange. 3/8" aluminum plate:

Hermph...We have some porting to do.

Mocking up the pipe:

Where we wanted it to sit:

Pipe back from the welder:

Mounting the Porsche TPS:

Bling bling!

Oh, and IAC port: The other two vacuum lines were drilled into the plate/pipe.

Up next is a ported and polished head. Should be here this week.

Awesome. I see that 944 is a late model - may I suggest removing the intake elbow and routing it straight into/underneath the nose panel? Reason being the intake out in the open is doing more damage than good - pretty much a 'hot air intake' at this point.

Take a look at some S2s under the bonnet and notice the intake routing. Great job, nonetheless!

I agree. We tossed around the idea of a vented nose panel of sorts, but if I play my cards right, he will be supercharged by spring and running some sort of standalone.

very cool, i like this idea, i have considered something similar...

let us know how this affects throttle response, it should slow it slightly, being further from the valves...

Other way around. The increased size of the butterfly increases throttle response. Now, less throttle open, allows more airflow than with the smaller TB. Plus, more plenum volume means more air on tap.

With 3" throttlebody it might be interesting 944 to drive... With just partial throttle you get much more air compared to oem one. i suppose you should consider similar throttleblate "mod" Audi used on several models. There's a "restirctor" which reduce amount of air going through the throttlebody. With WOT it allowes TB flows maximum amount of air.

Default 3 inch throttle body

it's done and it works fine. It took a couple of modifications but really quite simple to do.

The original throttle body is 59mm. It doesn't sound like a big difference but the 70mm throttle body looks huge beside the original.

Hell people used to put 60 mm jeep throttle bodies on neons. They only had a 52 mm. TB stock and it made quite a bit of difference. Have you given it a test drive yet?
