Default Swepco 203 versus 201

I asked the local dealership a while back for a gallon of Swepco to put in the transmission of my car, they gave me a gallon of Swepco 203 but I keep hearing 201 as the "standard" for use in the 944 trannys. What's the difference? Is the 203 okay? Should I just bring it back and try to exchange it? I'll eventually go with Amsoil but for now I figure I might as well use it since I have it and I've got too many other things that are going to keep my $$$ tied up for a while. . .

It looks like the 203 is for heavier duty applications, so would this be better or worse? Anyone else used it?

Both are the same product........ The 203 has molly lube (Molybdenum disulfide) and the 201 does not!

Both work very well.

Cheers,
Paul

I called Swepco today. I didn't wait long before talking with a very nice guy who basically confirmed my understanding that 201 is intended to be the product for 944 transaxles, but 203 works just fine and has the molly lube in it. I recommend giving them a call if you have any questions.

You don't want moly if you have LSD. it will cause it to slip.

That sounds like a drug reference now that I read it back to myself.

Correct, the MoS2 will poison the LSD clutch discs.

Kevin, what is the recommendation for a Guard LSD in a 944 transaxle, Swepco 201 or 203?

Actually, I use Swepco 210, synthetic based in the 944 Guard LSD transaxle.
