Turn my mint 944 into daily driver?

I agree with the old Subie idea. I have a few of them and they do inspire confidence in snow. With good snow tires my (non-LSD) 944 was pretty decent in the snow compared to several other front engine/RWD cars I've owned or driven.

subaru outbacks also make great cars, i've owned two of them. I like them over the imprezz since they have more room and cargo space with the hatch back. I have dogs and camp a lot. Here is one of my fav pics of her.

That sure is a nice-looking 944. Daily drivers come and go but 944's in that shape are harder to find. I'd try to avoid any driving that isn't pleasure-related.
Another point is maintenance. Maintaining a Porsche, even a 944, that you are driving daily will cost much much more than a mainstream car. In fact; what you save on a couple of maintenance/repair jobs done by a good shop will buy you the beater.

I have to respectfully disagree with a few of you that do not think 944's will be good collector cars. As soon as all the bad ones are parted there will only be premium ones left and they will command good money. Look at what the 914's and 356's have done. Those cars were worth nothing 15 years ago. Now look at them.

great car !! Legacy yes, Outback yes, yes, yes, yes yes yes. total win. and second "beaters" really don't cost much in the grand scheme...
my 968 is grounded when the slightest amount of the white stuff comes down. total fail.

944s like yours are all but impossible to find on the market, probably because they practically have the same value as the "usual" sorts of cars. Nobody is willing to pay the well-deserved premium for an excellent condition 944, from what I've seen, so potential sellers just keep them.
If you have a bad financial constraint, then you might regret doing this, since in 5 or 10 years after your car is not so nice anymore, you will want to be in a position to buy somebody else's awesome Porsche of some kind. Start saving. Another thing is that, from my experience, maintenance expenses on a 944 used daily can easily reach $3K per year. Stuff breaks after all this time.

Any Subaru 4WD will SMOKE a 944 in winter, period. Anyone telling you different is completely clueless. I highly recommend a Subaru 4WD drive as a winter beater. That car is very tough to beat in the big snow I see every year.

Don't drive it, these cars are going to be worth money soon. With 944 racing series and all the non-maintained cars dying off there won't be many low-mile cars left. I've read many stories of guys selling there 356's for peanuts in the early 80's and now those cars are worth a fortune.

I know how much you guys like to hear the end to a story, so here it is. I decided not to drive my 944 through the winter, I know I would be crazy mad if anything would happen to it... so instead I bought a 2002 Subary Impreza Outback with 105k miles on it as my winter and daily commute car. Thanks for everyone's comments!
