New 968 Owner
It's probably about time to introduce myself to the board. After a 3 year gap in Porsche ownership, I'm rejoining the fray in a 94 968. I've had an affinity for the 968 since I saw my first one in person and have thought about adding one to the stable for a few years. The opportunity to do so came this week as the result of a Christmas present from an amazing wife who wanted me back in a Porsche and back out in the garage.
As a former 993 owner, I've got to say that I was amazed after my first spirited drive with this car. I'll always love the 993 and will have another one in the future. But the 968 is clearly a more balanced platform and is a keeper. Very easy to drive quickly without the pendulum feel of a rear engined car. Gobs of traction no doubt aided by the 255/40/17s on the back. And I never thought I would get excited about driving a 4 cylinder but the 3L 16V motor is fantastic. Great torque and acceleration through corners that I think will make this car a blast on the track.
I'm very happy with the car so far. She's mechanically sound and runs strong. Will be doing the motor mounts and the belts/tensioner in the next few weeks to make sure they are up to date. I'm planning to start DE work this year and will start working through the suspension and safety bits soon. Thanks to all of you that contribute your knowledge of these great cars and how to maintain them. Searching on Rennlist and the other 968 sources on the web made the decision easy. Clearly a knowledgeable group of enthusiasts who are passionate/fanatical about the breed. Looking forward to joining the madness. Here's the required pic.

That's a pretty car! As I'm sure you've been hearing, it's worth looking at the cam chain tensioner (under the valve cover -- the plastic pads which the chain between the two cams runs on) when you do the belts.
Good luck!

unless of course, you happen to be in the market for my engine. (then we can make an exception).
anyway, you have a very cool wife. welcome to the party, Pal...

Thanks for the comments guys. Car has 103k miles and has been locally owned by the two previous owners who both live within 15 minutes. I've had fun going over the car a couple of times this week. A few things to do but nothing too bad. Charlie, thanks for the feedback on the cam tensioners. I'll have a look when I get in there and do some proactive maintenance. Damian, I love that speed yellow cab. Did you have it down in Eureka Springs, Arkansas for Porsche Palooza in 06? Swear I've seen it in person.
