Will a 944 raised from the dead bring new public awareness about
the Euro sports car that took America by storm 38 years ago ?
Might we see a few new 944/968 enthusiasts?
Has anyone been following this guy's YT posts about the $500 944 w/ millions of views??
He's got a bunch more videos up..... here's a few of them.

[never would have believed THIS ONE would come into my wrecking yard category]...
Truth is stranger than fiction.

Lots of reasons.
For ~$10,000:
E36 M3
WRX
16V 928
Basket-case 911
Boxster
Spec Miata
E34 M5
300ZX
For ~ $20,000:
996
911SC/3.2
32V 928
C5 Z06
Golf R32
Mazdaspeed 3
E46 M3
E30 M3
E39 M5
E55 AMG
Fox Mustang Cobra w/ IRS
550 Outlaw
A serious down payment on a new GTI or WRX
Have a shot at haggling with someone who needs to unload a $25k car this minute, like an Elise or 930.
It would take a severely dedicated person to not eventually say "time to sell" even having good luck with a 944/68. Most everyone who admits to liking cars would find SOMETHING they like on that list.

It's astonishing the number of people, [include me in this group] that aren't/will never be
satisfied until they are into seriously big money with these cars.
i honestly believe a happy 944/968 driver is spending upwards of $60, 70, 80, 90, 100,000 and up,
and for some, up and up and up.
People should be very choosy with the car/s they choose for these projects.

having bought a 944 as my first project car (knowing nothing at the time) back in 2006, then sold it in 2010 when I got a 996, and now having bought another 944 all these years later after buying and restoring a couple of e39s, an e36, and two cayenne turbos, there is something special and fun about the 944. But it has that project car feel.

I love cars, but there's nothing on yellowline's list that particularly appeals to me....

Yellowlines list is over 10 years old, so none of those values mean anything anymore, $10k won’t buy any bmw m car, it won’t buy any 911 that is drivable, it will buy a basket case 16v 928….etc.
But 10k will still buy you a reasonably good 944/924, 15-20k will buy a very nice example, adjust upwards for 968 and 951 models. The gulf between good cars and bad cars is going to continue to widen. Basically look at what happened to the 928 market, the 944 is following that.
As for value…that’s funny. Buy an old car because you like it and it makes you feel good and try not to think of the money you spend on it. Life is short, as car enthusiast you’re not going to remember the boring crap you owned when you are looking back.

I have a pretty low mile M3 in excellent mechanical condition that’s I’ll sell for under 10k right now
I’d even drive it anywhere in the conus to deliver it for cost.. (if I have/had time)
95 coupe manual 113k miles and the black Vader’s are even about 9/10 condition.. New timing tensioners, oil filter housing rebuilt, new VANOS, new MAF, guibo, csb, etc..
Very reliable..
Bunch of new suspension stuff too.. Stereo stuff..
NO RUST!
paint is pretty bad, clear coat failed it seems, and something happened to the front right fender..
Rebuilt title, was totaled at some point, left rear..
Great driver if you want an M.. Drives very nice, very smooth engine..
Why?
Its boring compared to my turbo 2.0s, and more expensive to fix every time it needs anything..
My turbo 2.0 Porsches are so fun, fast, and so cheap and easy to work on..
My timing belts are $25 including tensioner and 20 minutes..
I can do a head gasket in like 5 hours probably..
I never drive the M3.. It just sits in the garage..
Like my 2.0 cars much better.. Even my slower less modded one is easily as fast as the M, and my fast 2.0 will blow its doors off..
IDK about you 2.5 guys.. I’m not itching to buy one..
They seem scary..
2.0s for me

Many good points. My perspective is a little different. These cars are way underpriced for the coolness/uniqueness of the vehicle - plus parts are cheap, although labor is not. I have had my 1984 944 for three months now and replaced a bunch of parts. But have been wrenching for decades including on a 911 and a 87 Toyota Land Cruiser. All of these cars require replacing the typical perishable parts that the PO didn’t replaced. You all know the parts.
The bang for the buck on these cars is outstanding.
