Coolant leak solved!!! $.99 cent fix
Well I finally solved my coolant leak. Apparently my waterpump blockoff plate (located on the front of updated waterpumps) was leaking. It was leaking from the bottom side of the plate and then running down the backside of my timing belt cover and then dripping out the bottom of the cover. It was not dripping straight down from the plate, so it was difficult to locate. I initially thought it was a failing water pump and was about ready to overhaul the belts and waterpump. Spent the weekend investigating the leak a little closer and it payed off. I bought a new seal costing $.95 cents from Performance products and now there is no more leak. My first cheap fix since I've owned the car.

Tell me more. I have the same thing happening on my 968...water pump only has 20k miles on it but it's leaking the exact same way that you describe. How did you check/replace the seal without too much drama? Thanks a bunch.

2 10mm hex or 2mm allen head bolts (varies from car to car) that hold the block off plate on the pump. There is an o ring underneath it that can fail.

Cool, so I've just gotta dump all the coolant and remove the belt cover? Then I should have access to the block off plate and be able to replace the seal?

You can access it with the covers off on the 944's, but I am not sure on your car. Should be the same. NA's have a cream colored peice just above the outlet, turbos have a black one that runs to the turbo water pump.

No, it already had that part to send coolant to the throttle body. No modification needed, but I checked out the plate with the hose attached and there's no calcium build up or dampness after driving. No, it already had that part to send coolant to the throttle body. No modification needed, but I checked out the plate with the hose attached and there's no calcium build up or dampness after driving.
