My stock Porsche steering wheel needs recovering. Thinking about purchasing a Momo Prototipo instead since it seems to be around the same price as recovering.
Also, I have the spacer behind my wheel. Can I use a nonspacer wheel or is my shaft too long for this?

What kind of wheels are you guys using and/or like?

Have had the 968 CS wheel in my turbo for the last two years. Best wheel ever, worth every penny and the time it took me to disconnect the airbags properly.

i like the prototipo and the monte carlo on our cars.
i don't know what you mean by spacer.
but to put a momo on a car you need to get the hub adapter. it puts it right around the stock distance. maybe a fraction of an inch difference, if i remember right.

Guess its preference, I have two 944s, one with the 968 CS wheel and a race car with a Momo Monte Carlo. I like the CS wheel better. They both end up slightly further from the dash but not much.

I have the CS as well, and I love it. I have had plenty of others over the years (albeit in other cars) and this one is by far the best one yet. Love it!

Migth be a little more expensive but if you can go with an SC do it ,did upgrade to one in my 968 last year you simply can compare to a Momo Prototipo or Dino (had one in my 944).They are very easy to DIY & all hardware come with it ,no hassle -no spacer-no hub adapter.They are available from Sunset Porsche (drawback available in black only).LOL once you grip that thing in your hand it's heaven.

i don't like the idea of going cheap on anything that i have to look at and touch... (not sure that came out right).

a few hundred dollars for a wheel you'll be loving for the next 45 years is nothing.

i have a 996 airbag wheel. the mods i had to do to get this wheel in weren't easy. all worth it.

That 968 wheel looks very similar in shape to my momo, which also feels great in the hand. Might have to put the 968 wheel into the *to do* list, but will definately try and test one first. looks great though

Seafeye: is the '87 non airbag wheel the same four spoke wheel that came on the '86's and although it needs cleaning is the leather in good condition with no excess wear areas or rips?

Ernie9468: Where is Suset Porsche located? Any chance of getting a 968 CS wheel for a decent price on ebay?

Just bite the bullet and buy a real 968 CS wheels. It is what connects you to your car.

I took it off right when i bought the car and put on a Momo. From what i remember it just needed a good cleaning. The whole car was dirty. Tomorrow i will go out there (Garage) and take a couple of pictures of it. Have a extra boxster wheel as well if that would fit???

the boxster wheel must be reduced. you'll need to bore about 1/8~3/16" out of the front of the wheel and cut about 1/4~5/16" off the rear to reduce the wheel by 7/16" such that it will fit over the shorter 944 or 968 shaft..... then you'll need a 993 or 996 clock spring and make some additional mods.
