Here are all the tires available in both 225/55-16 and 245/50-16.

Diameter is about 25.7, compared to the stock 24.9, which will lift your car up .4 inches, and need .4 more room under the fenders.

The tires are both the same diameter, so won't mess up ABS. If your speedometer was correct before, it would now show 68 when you go 70.

I just bought four new (well, made in 2008 but unused) 245-45-16 Continentals from this guy on ebay.

At some point I might do one of those vintage car tours, and tires with tread would be a good idea.

I'm thinking of going 225 all around and adding a 6-7 mm spacer for the back.
Of course longer ones will need to replace the studs but will fill out the fenders better.

I'm running 225/45 16 on the rear of my na on 16x9 930 fuchs. At first I was afraid they would look narrow but they look fine and the na doesn't need anything wider than 225 anyway. IMHO 225 all around is great on an na.

How about a picture of those 225s on a 9" Fuchs?

That's a rare size too, and is recommended for wheels only up to 8.5" wide.

Also an inch shorter than normal sizes for these cars. 225-50 would be better, but max rim width for those is 8"

There is a Vdubber joke about stretching but I would probably get banned for it...

I just bought a new Golf R, so I guess I'm a Vdubber again (the last one I owned was a new 1984 Mk I GTI that I put a Callaway turbo kit on!).

But I don't "get" the skinny tires on wide rims thing. Or the so-low-it-scrapes thing.

Old fart, over and out.

Lack of available 16" tyres made me stretch 225 Toyo on to a 9" rim in the front, and 245 Hankook Ventus on to 10" in the rear. Doesn't look too bad, but need to get an alignment before I make a judgement on the performance - and let the tyres scrub in a bit.

Hey I just bought a 2012 GTI currently have a 90 S2 Cab. Right now the GTI is stock but will probably have an APR Stage 1 ECU upgrade this spring. Am thinking about doing a few DE events in the GTI as My Cab does not have a roll bar and I do not want to go that way as it is low miles 67 K and completely stock. Your sign on says you live in Ohio. I live in Westerville just north of Columbus

I'm in Cincinnati but have 3 kids at OSU.

I'm planning APR stage 1+, probably with Audi S3 intercooler and APR fuel pump.

Golf will be sharing DD duty with my '03 Miata. Planning to downsize to 17" wheels for more subtle appearance and pothole protection.

Wow, even older than me- class of '73 (Kettering Ohio).

Didn't meet me at Mid-Ohio, haven't been there for five years or so....

In fact, haven't really been anywhere for five years or so!

Maybe I am mistaken about meeting at Mid Ohio. I did talk to a guy who was racing racing a white factory prepared car. in the vintage race
