Yep. I did the wire wiggle for about 4 years . . . .

I very rarely drive this car in the dark because I live here in "The Land of Midnight Sun". It's almost always light out during the summer and I don't drive it in the winter.

I've heard of (and seen on other early cars) the blue connector on the back of the fuse panel burn one of the pins (can't remember which one) and even melt the plastic. I'm having the exact same problem, and it came up after I installed the wrong front turn signal/parking light bulbs.

Just like you said, the next move would be to remove the fuse panel and examine the connectors.

i'll take plenty of pictures. the lights are workign fine as of now but i will be digging into this once i reinstall my gauge clusters. i havethem out to replace the bulbs. i want to be sure everything is right. gauges seem dim... anyone else feel the the same way or is this normal for the 944?

You probably have a more severe problem as indicated by your photos, but I had a problem with my headlights going up and then not going down when I turned the switch off. There are TWO fuses for the headlights in the fuse box under the hood. The one for "retract" decided to blow on me. If you work out your other issues and then still have the headlight problem, you may want to check that out.

i'm not sure there are any fuses under the hood on my early 85....

When they are stuck in the up position (with teh switch to off) , try wiggling the relay that sticks in the headlight motor. Mine does this sometimes, a wiggle of the relay and it closes (right then and there).

the wiring at the fuse box was the culprit.. i still need to de-pin and clean all connections.
