It will be getting the wiring harness finished and installed this weekend. So close to starting it for the first time.

With the price of fuel going from a 4 to 8 would add up over time. The 968 delivers a great fuel miliage to power ratio from the factory. If my engine would go next week and I had a spare LS1 laying around I would do the swap, but I would not go out of my way to do this conversion. For the money spent I would just spend it on another car if drag race power is that important.

very good to see someone else who see's through the bull****, zombie recovery we've got going and sees 8 dollar-a-gallon gas, around the corner.

much congratulations.

there's one advantage to running a 6-speed... gears 1-4 basically suck but my 4th and 5th gears will be good for performance, destroying mustangs, bmws, etc.... the redline (governed) on my LS3 will be 6,250 rpm. my new gears finally arrived from Europe, and i have a nice transmission for them w/ low miles, so in they go next month.... remember you need a good 5th gear for the 40-65 mph range below interstate cruising speeds, i.e., traffic, rush hour, construction, secondary roads, state highways, going uphill, etc.... my 5th gear (.730) will make it possible to reach 166 mph under the limiter running 25.6" 285-35-18s, and will have the car in the 'sweet spot' during this kind of driving... if my engine were tuned for maximum power, i could see 203 mph at the redline in top gear (.600). as built, the engine won't get there, but *low-190s should be possible -- and i'll be around 2155 rpm at 70 mph, about the same as your typical Z06.

* if i follow through on my planned head retuning (before i seriously run out of money), i'll be able to make some power w/ headers, 3" exhaust, no cat, straight through mufflers, ported heads, LS7 cam, and better valvesprings. i'm definitely going to be poor until the end of this year.

FWIW, the V8 conversions are reporting mileage about the same as with the 944 turbo motor. I know I had a V8 prior to getting a twin turbo V6 and got better mileage with the V8.

It's very hard to calculate the exact gas MPG's I am getting now. I just went thru my 2nd 10-gal tank testing of the MPG's after I did the 951 trans swap with the taller NA gear. The first 10 gal fill-up I calculated 29 mpg as I babied it with back and to work and around town. This last 10-gal fill-up I calculated 30.5 and It was all Hiway miles in 5th from Tulsa to OKC at 70mph..... Couldn't be happier. The only thing I've done besides adding my regular mix of acetone is a Z06 cam swap in the 5.3

I'm at around 17-18 mpg with my short Turbo 5th gear and stop and go around-town driving. About 30% better than my 5.9L Durango, which gets in the 13's doing the same thing.

edit: And, by reading the ad, I learned that my hatch should open up when I press the button. Who knew?

I think its a cool idea. But I don't think I could do it to my car. If I had a car that was on its last legs or was a 924S I would love to do an LS1 swap.

When your bottom end is blown and you examine all the options you'll find that the LS1 makes a lot of sense.

Not to mention the LS1 is hella cool. Sound, power (and the virtually flat torque curve), reliability, part availability, and apparently comparable gas mileage. only drawback is the price to do the swap... can buy a good condition f-body for the same price lol...

If you do it yourself it really isn't that expensive to do just the swap. It is the while I am in there stuff that kills the budget. At one point I had the car down to an empty bare shell.

It had some questionable stereo and alarm installation. Other than that and a fist sized hole in the block, it is a solid car.

very nice. btw, i'm looking at hydroboost kits to buy tonight, but not sure which one i should get... i should have asked Eric Hill when i had him on the phone earlier. he shipped my oilpan and ceramic long tubes, today.

is this too much braking power? any suggestions?
