Default 944 Cabriolet MOD all cabs need.

As you all know the 944 and 968 cabriolet have an electric pop mechanism for the trunk. Porsche got their head out of their butt with the 968 and made an emergency release for if/when the electric system fails. Unfortunately for us 944's do not have this, however this is what I did. Maybe this will help some of you do make an emergency release.

Remove the latch.

Remove the round pull out of it's holder. As you can see it has a hole through it, if it doesn't go through drill it out the rest of the way. I had 2 latches, the original 90 had a hole through it, the 89 did not.

I ran 18 gauge wire through the hole, put a round crimp on connector on the end and put the round pull thing back on it tight (it acts as a pinch).

Routed the wire like the next coupel wires.

You'll need to use a fish to get the wire through the reinforcements.

Proof of concept.

Interesting, but I've always been able to open the trunk with the key if the release button doesn't.

Mine was dead when I bought the car. The problem was the switch in the car whose resistance was sooooo high that neither the key nor the button would work.

I think the 91 cabriolets got something else. I saw an 89 and tried opening the hatch without the car having a battery. Wouldn't open.

The 91, I opened that thing without the battery all of the time.

yeah the later cars had tip switches on the rear key release that used the electric motor even w/ the key. Stupid.

That is how all cabs are. There is no direct linkage to latch. Only the 968 cab's added a ohh crap handle. My situation is a bit different too, since I moved my battery to the trunk where the 25lb lead weight is to offset a little of the 80lbs the v8 added to the front.

1990. The only cabs that this was fixed on was 968's, where Porsche added a manual release in the same area. I've seen all 3 years, they all have this issue. (My dismantler has a 91 Cab)
