I can't help but to mention... you will likely get even more help if you change the subject of this thread to something more appropriate and related to your request.

@ernie9468- I don't want a tracked or modified car. I'm looking for a pretty much stock example that hasn't been abused.

@zerMATT951- I will indeed.

+1. I do know of a black one as the OP describes, and its owner wouldn't mind letting it go, but it is probably closer to $12K.

All I can say is I love my S2 (now on it's way to being an S3...long, long story...) However I have paid what I paid for the car in rebuilding it cuz it was badly neglected, and that's NOT counting what I am doing now. So be REALLY REALLY careful at your price point. It's not impossible, but it aint easy to find one for 8k that doesn't need 8k of work to get it back in good shape. I am sure there are some on this forum that paid 8k and got a good car, but I am also pretty sure there are probably more ( I am one of them) that didn't. All I can say is pay what ever it is for a really really good PPI, and take your time! Good luck and be sure to keep us all up to date and pics ASAP!

Ofcourse thanks a lot guys. I'm thinking of raising my price range to $10,000 and just waiting as long as it takes to find one that's in the condition I want.

I think you are wise. Being clear with what you want up front can save you a pile of money trying to turn something that's not into something that's a bit closer. Almost everything can be changed or upgraded (with the exception of mileage), but the rule that has been proven time and time again is that it's almost always cheaper to buy something in good condition to start with rather than to try to do the heroic rescue restoration on a neglected vehicle. Even a "free" car starts to look pretty expensive pretty quickly.

I suspect that when the one you are looking for comes along, it probably won't be significantly more expensive than many of the unsuitable examples you would have already seen. In the current market, even the really nice examples don't seem to command anywhere near the premium they should with respect to saved maintenance and repair bills down the track.

I owned my S2 for a couple of years without needing to do much more than change the oil and refuel it. Over time, that changed, however. I've probably ticked the box for most of the major jobs now (just doing my second clutch job now). The honeymoon was nice while it lasted though. ;-)

8k is more than I got for my 72k mile S2 with a new clutch, service records from new, no dash cracks, excellent tires, blah blah, etc. two years ago.

I owned every iteration of the 944 except the S. If i was buying another 944 it would be S2 #4

I have one in Bamboo (Gold) that I'd let go. It's higher mileage than your criteria, and the clear coat has one patch that is not good, but the price will reflect. Mechanically sound with a good interior. Self maintained.
