Default 3,000 mile trip cross-country in a 944

Since it is said no one posts that they DON'T have problems with their car, I thought I would post this. Also since there have been several posts about "can my car make a 500-mile trip without falling apart?"

I left the Albuquerque area a week and a half ago, drove up to the Chicago area, taking US highways nearly the whole way (I hate interstates). I had only one problem on the whole trip: my passenger visor clip broke. It used no oil, it spat no water, it made no bad noises. In the course of the trip I needed virtually every system on the car; wipers, heat, A/C, cruise control, etc., and all of them worked flawlessly. Just under 3,100 miles in a week and a half. My gas mileage average (overall) was 30.1.

I can't complain about this car!

Default 1000 km in a day

I spent about 11 hours in my car 2 weekends ago and drove about 1000 km with no problems. Not up to your travels but still lots-o-fun!

These are great cars.

Make sure you replace BOTH clips when you do. They always break at the same time, usually within days or even minutes!!

Where you headed casey? Have fun!

I drove my buddy's 944 from minnesota to maine in 24 hours last summer. Sometime soon I'll be heading out there to buy it from him and drive it to Iowa. I've had my 924S for about a year now, and it hasn't given me any engine trouble, and I've only had to repair things that were already broken when I bought it.
If you take care of the basics and don't go full throttle all the time these can be awesome and fairly reliable. Good thread, it gives me some hope!!!haha.

Talking

Once spend 32 hrs on a trip in my ex 944,mileage at the time was approx 65k miles on it ,I did add 1/2 a quart of oil during the whole trip nothing else.Ah! yes got pull over by the the Quebec SQ not because I was speeding but I had forgoten to switch of my Fox radar detector (which was legal in my Province but not in PQ).I try to explain but no way I had to hand my detector over to those two over zealous piece of SHT.They had been tail gating me for at least 5 or 6 miles in an old unmark Chev Caprice but I never took the bait ,so I guess it was their way to get back at me since they could'nt get me for speeding.

Exactly! I have about 8k miles on all the usual stuff (belts/rollers, WP, etc) and less than that on a clutch, re-greased the CV's before I left because the grese looked hardened when I had the half-shafts off for the clutch. I was cruising at about 2,500 most of the time, temp gauge and oil pressure were rock steady at ideal values.

Taking US Routes instead of the interstate was a concern before I left, because there are NO Porsche dealers along them, especially in Kansas. But after I got out on the road, I saw a couple of Audis, a Suzuki, a SAAB... what would they do if they needed a part?! Unless you have a pickup truck, in KS you are out of luck, probably in Missouri and downstate Illinois too.

BTW until I got near Chicago, I did not see a single P-car of any type. Several people in KS said they had never seen a Porsche in person.

Been thinking 'bout you Casey. All my best.
Reassembling my engine right now and should have the 24S back in no time.
For those of you yet to embark on such a mission; fresh trans oil, and DME. Typically our cars(and most others) run fine if you never turn them off.
