Default Max tyre size

Hi all,

I have been looking for a nice set of rims/tyres for my 944N/A 1987 for a while now and i found something. Rear wheels: 11Jx18 ET45, tyres; 265/40/18. Now i'm wondering.. Will it fit? I can roll the arches if needed and raising the suspension is not a problem either.

I'm currently driving on 225/50/16 and according to the calculator the wheel will be 3.8 cm bigger in total.

Greetings and thanks in advance!

saw a really horny 911 body kit on a 993 a couple of weeks ago when i was getting ready to leave massachusetts.

what we had were 9.5" fronts and 13" rears, and matching rubber off the charts.

not for me but, looked pretty cool.

for easy viewing, let the resize feature on your windows paint be your friend.

a 968T/RS rear spoiler on a 944 is really cool.

11J18 ET45 is WAY too wide for the rears... and WAY WAY too wide for the front.. and would stick out past the fenders both front and rear! (I know the euro VW and BMW scene is into stretched tires and wheels past the guards... but it just doesn't suit my taste...)

265-40-18 is WAY narrow for even a 10 inch wide wheel... would have a ton of stretch on an 11 inch wheel..

285/30/18 on a 10 inch wheel is about the widest you can fit without siginificant metal work (in my experience) to the rears...

much wider than 9 inch wheels, or 245 tires in the front and you may require metal work again...

Finally, to avoid incidental over / understeer on your car, I would recommend not exceeding a 245 tyre, and sticking with a "square setup" of no wider than 8 inch wheels all around...

There are MANY OEM wheels that will work on our cars, and look good too!

BTW, cute kid! but shouldn't he be wearing a seat belt?

Ofcourse i'm not going to fit them in front, only the rear. Front is 8J with 225/40/18

And for the compliment about the wing, i'm loving the look too. A lot of people here in the Netherlands think its way too big.. Their problem, i love it :-)

I forgot this was the large picture, didnt upload the small one. And the kid next to me isnt mine, i'm only 22 and he was wearing a seatbelt! It was on day for Kids with an incurable decease.

Thanks for all the info! But now i still dont know if i can fit these rearwheels on my car. Btw, they are imitation gt3 rims!

Btw, too narrow.. Friend of my has 9J and 215 on it.. It works.. And for the rear wheels; i like the look!

Awesome dude.

I think your current wheels suit the car well. I wouldn't change them.

I just dont like them.. I prefer to get some awsome rims for show and get simple 15" or 16" with r888's for the track. So that's why i want some other one's!

IMHO, The 5 spoke MY02 wheels are a perfect fit, and look great!

But I could be partial!

Front 245/35/18 on 8J18 ET52
Rear 285/30/18 on 10J18 ET65

For the rears, both the inner and outer fenders had to be hammered to make these wheels and tires fit...

Taking a tire designed to be 9.8 inches wide (265), and puting it on an 11 inch wide rim is not to my taste, but that is why the world is a great place.. if we were all the same wouldn't life be boring?

FWIW, here is a 265 tyre on an 11 inch wheel...(oops, it is a 12 inch wheel, but the effect is about the same..)

With body modifcations and radical rear camber they MIGHT fit.. if it werent for the ET45 Offset..(you need narow body 996/997 wheels, wide body dont fit very well)

11*25.4=279.4 (inches to mm)
279.4*.5=139.7 (offset is measured from the center of the wheel)
139.7-45=94.7 (positive offset means the mounting face is to the outside of the center line)

279.4-94.7=184.7 (wheel left INSIDE the wheel well from the brake rotor face to the inner fender well, thats a whole lot of wheel to squeze in there... but it has been done)

thats 94.7mm of wheel sticking out past the outer edge of the brake rotor... where there is only approx 70mm of space to the fender lip (varies from car to car..)

leaving aproxiamtely one inch of wheel sticking out beyond the fender..

BUT as usual I could be wrong... with enough camber it COULD fit... but again, would not be to everyones taste..

end of road, will it fit? it can be made to fit...

I have 10.5" 56mm ET and they've right at the edge of the fender lip. And they rub the inner fender on hard acceleration. They have 275 tires on them and it's stretched enough that it looks dumb. As already stated, you could make those wheels fit but I have to ask the question, why? You can find GT3 clone wheels that are designed for a narrow body car more easily than doing the work to make these ones fit.

don't put 265s on 11" rims. ugly is one thing, but it's also unsafe.

install 285-30 or 35s on there and if necessary. may require some fender rolling,

but the result will be quite horny.

So it comes down to the fact that the rims just wont fit without adapting the body, i'm not planning on driving with a lot of negative camber so i can better look for a different set.. I was hoping these would fit..

I saw a set of refubished BBS RS's but they are "only" 16"..

I like that rear hatch. Sorry I can't add anything to this thread. If you had an early car you could maybe fit the 11" rim in the rear with a small spacer.

45 offset is too little for a late car. They won't fit. There are tons of wheel options that look awesome on these cars tho! I run a 10" wheel with 61mm offset. 275/35-18 with no rubbing issues.
