How bad are solid motor and tranny mounts?
One of the motor mounts in my 951 has been collapsed as long as I've owned the car and solid mounts are a lot cheaper the other reliable aftermarket mounts, but how bad are they? My car is used for a combination of street and track. Since the current mount is collaped I wonder if I would even notice much. I currently get quite a bit of vibration at idle, but I'm used to it and I don't expect this car to be a luxury ride.
With this in mind how bad are the torsion tube or tranny solid mounts?
Thanks!

Even your collapsed mounts have some rubber isolating the engine. Solid engine mounts do not and will transmit any engine noise directly to the chassis rails and throughout the car. Same with solid trans mount, it's noisy any annoying on a street car.
You can always urethane the trans mount and fit semi solid engine mounts, I think Lindsey has them but I still prefer the factory engine mounts.

I agree - solid mounts are harsh and I don't think the minuscule performance gains negate the extra noise and vibration. I also tend to think it is not a positive thing to transmit all the road bumps back into the engine.

Had the solid mounts, hated them, had stock mounts, and they were OK.. ended up at semi solid mounts, and IMHO they offer the best of both worlds... firm enough to prevent excess movement, yet not so rigid to transmit 100% of the noise to the chassis of the car!
I LOVE reading comments such as "they will rattle your fillings out".. as these comments are by someone who has NEVER used a product, but feels the need to weigh in on it...
I also have solid (elephant racing) suspension monoball inserts in place of the stock rubber bushings... and yes all my fillings are still in place! That having been said, my 951 is all semi solid engine and trans, with teh elephant racing monoballs in the suspension, my N/A is new stock rubber bushings with new stock rubber engine mounts and semi solid trans mount.. for the N/A that I daily drive 120 miles this setup works without making me tired at the end of the day.. the 951 is MUCH more demanding of attention durring driving!

Thanks for the advice. The LR Ultra mounts looked like the best option on paper, except for their price. I was just hoping I could get by with the cheaper solid mounts, but it sounds like it's worth the extra money to go with the semi-solid.

Have never used the LR mounts (other than the solid ones).. so I cannot comment..

did any of you use the shims or did you lower the engine 10mm?
