Default lost a head retaining nut?

Just took the head off. The rear retaining nut from underneath the cam tower got a little hung up once it was free. I grabbed my magntic grabber and it was gone and havent been able to find it anywhere

Did it fall inside or outside the head?

If inside, it is likely now in the oil pan...

If outside, a gremlin stole it, and likely threw it under the drivers seat! as that is usually where my odds and ends hardware ends up!

In reality, it could be ANYWHERE in the engine bay, on the right side of the motor... from the front bumper to the firewall (give everything a good shake, including the belly pans if still on, and it might just end up on the floor!)

If it fell INTO the head / engine, it is in the oil pan, and the pan will have to come off to get it out!

What path could it have taken to go from the head down to the oil pan? It didn't look like any of the openings were that big for it to fall through and the head was still on when I lost it.

Turn the car upside down and shake. Stuff like this makes me nuts. I dropped a nut to the steering U-joint this morning and it was finally found sideways between a hose and a wire bundle. Not where logic would dictate it's path. I hope you find it before you have to pull the pan.

Yes, the one you cover-up when you do any work at the back of the engine. It's the mysterious black hole where all things missing go.

I'm still leaning towards the gremlin throwing it under the drivers seat...

Did you check under the drivers seat?

Or in the oil left in the pocket in the head where the nut sits when installed?

I can't find that **** anywhere. With tge head on there waa no place for it to go down. The TDC is uphill and away on the other side of the motor.

to make the day worse the botto front bolt for the oil cooler decided the only the head wanted to come off. My stud exctractor bent it. Headed to work to get a different style one. If that doesnt work, looks like the motor is coming out. FML

Is there a part number on that OEM cover?

Found the nut. There's the oil passage in that corner and it tucked its self in there where you couldnt see it and there was enough oil for it to stick. Turned the head upside down and shook it and 5 seconds later it dropped out. Now I pray this bolt will be as easy.

Yeah really...Show a picture!

I made one myself molded out of RTV silicon. I want to see how close my design came.

on the passengerside, closest to the fire wall on top of the block there is a square hole i think for cooling, i lost the head nut 2 times in this hole, stick a magnet down there and it will come out.
