Default 944S2 Oilfilter change

Hello all,

today it was time for an oilchange and replacing the filter.I thought i wouldt be good to make a hole on top of the filter to drain it before takin it off.....
well, the result showed thats not the fix. has anyone an idea how to change the filter without spreading oil all over the place?

Thanks , Nobbi

I believe there is a rubber flap inside the oil filter that covers the perimeter holes... Puncturing the top of the filter won't lift that flap. Try folding up a piece of cardboard into a "v" shape and wedging that up there so the draining oil runs down that instead of onto the lower balance shaft cover / power steering bracket / sway bar bushing.

Someone suggested a plastic bag over the filter and slip it under as soon as the filter starts to come off. I tried it and it didnt work form me, but I might have done it wrong. I just use a bunch of paper towels. Be careful worth the hole in the filter - make sure you can get the filter off before you punch a hole in it!

I tried the plastic bag trick, but really what works best for me is stuff 3-4 shop raps under and around the bottom, and twist it off quickly and get it right-side up and out of there.

Love these cars, but seriously...upside down oil filter...W T F. Drives me crazy every time i go to change my oil.

I've found the neighbors lawn trick works the best.

Default Oil filter Mess

I use a dog pad, the kind you use to line a cage for a training puppy. These are fairly large maybe 18" to 24" square. Tear a hole enough to slip over the filter and shove it down and around the oil cooler housing filter mount area best you can. Position the pad so that it will catch the spilling oil. slowly release the oil and drag the whole mess out together. So far worked 100% each time. Good luck!

Does anyone make a kit to relocate the filter?

I know this is common on boats...and it's not a fancy thing...just two gizmos...on that spins into the original opening and another with a bracket on it that has the receiving threads for a filter.

Each has two fittings on it and you get a pair of hi pressure, heat resistant hoses...and done....filter can go up to about 2 feet away from where it is now...and you need a bit more oil in the system.
