Default Not exactly M030... What is it?

Hey everyone,

A few years ago I bought a suspension system for my 944 which was supposed to be from a m030 spec 951. I didn't have the money or the time to deal with it, so it's been sitting in a crate ever since. I'm finally done with school, so now I can afford to play with my toy car again.

Today I started going through the parts, and it occurred to me that these probably are not m030 spec shocks (the bright green and "Bilstein" logo should have tipped me off earlier).

The front sway bar has a diameter of 26.8mm, the rear is 16mm. I have not broken apart the carrier to measure the torsion bar just yet. It appears to have the S4 brakes, aluminum trailing arms (951.331.513.0 & .514.0), aluminum a-arms (951.341.149.10 & .150.10).

I don't know what to make of the shocks. I can't find a part number on any of them. The springs are Weltmeister #250's.

So, does anyone know exactly what I have here? Any idea how I can find the part number of these shocks?

Thanks!

The sways are OE on the 944S2, as are the brakes... So it might be from an S2, i don't have the part numbers in front of me for the rest. IIRC the spring diameter for the S2/968 struts is different from the rest of the 944 series so you might measure what you have. Its not M030 but still good, you could do much worse and the spring upgrade is nice. You might consider a torsion bar upgrade to match for the rear if it wasn't upgraded already.

Of course M030 depends on the year of the car too, for my 88 944S that 26.8mm front sway was the M030 bar along with an 18 in the rear.

26.8/16 is 951S stuff, too--they put a smaller bar in the back with the wider 245/45 tires. the brakes are all 951/S2 stuff--the "S4" calipers are radial mount, meaning they bolt in from the top rather than the back. aluminum trailing arms are all the same...only the 85-86 has a different hub. all of the aluminum arms (front or rear) have 951 part numbers--they were made for the '86 951 and didn't change, so there are no new part numbers for non turbo cars. you see a lot of 930 part numbers on SC/Carreras for the same reason. M030 shocks (951/S2/968) are Koni and have coilover collars. Bilstein hasn't made standard struts for the 944 for years, so those are older. Green means standard and yellow means sport. if they rebound strongly, run 'em.
