Emergency: I lost my only KEY!
I went out on the Delaware river today and lost my only KEY!. Where can get another one without a copy? Can I give a local Porsche dealer my VIN and get a new one? Oh crap, I have it parked someplace I don't trust.

You can (or used to be able to) get a key cut by VIN from Porsche but the results were so often wrong they will not guarantee the results if they even do it for you. A good locksmith can make a key by "feel" or you can take out one of the locks and take it to a locksmith who can make a key to fit the lock. To do that you might need to have the car towed somewhere safe and get one of the doors popped or break out a rear window or fiddle the hatch lock via one of the license plate lights.
The locks are probably pretty worn and could be rake picked or something without too much trouble.
If anyone has only one key they should at least take a high quality digital picture of it, or um... go to the hardware store and get another key made.

The dealer can provide a key with a vin AND proof of ownership.
However, that only works obviously if you car was not re-keyed at some point. If your key had the OEM black plastic head, there's a good chance it has the original keys. If it was a generic key only, I'd be skeptical. In which case, the dealer-supplied key wouldn't work.
Oh, and get some spares made
Good luck,
Take care!
