Default How to tell for Rod Knock , Spun Bearing Blah Blah

Hey guys I've been getting this noise that has been bothering me for over a year and I'm trying to see if its an internal issue. It sounds like a light knock, its a consistant rythm and if I increase rpm, I don't hear it any more.

I tried removing one plug/injector wire at a time to see if it changes. Every time I remove one the car will run bad. I've always checked my oil and never have found metal shavings. I tried to narrow down the sound and if I could pin point a location sounds like cylinder 1 (listening threw a screwdriver), or just a noise from the front of the engine. From what I can tell seems to be uptop. Maybe valve tap?

I get paid friday and will buy a compression tester and see what I find but any insight is greatly valued.

After extended sitting periods my "S" always had trouble with the hydraulic lifers not "pumping up" Next oil change, Before you drain the oil try running a quart of ATF in with the oil at idle for 5-10 min. Then drain. It was a dull tapping noise. sounded bad, but easily corrected. ATF is a detergent oil, and cleaned everything out.

Cyclone... I have a compression tester and a leak down tester... But doubt either would help you...

If up top, it's a lifter ... If low its rod bearings.

I would imagine if you had had rod knock for a year then you wouldn't be driving it anymore.

Ya I'm thinking its a lifter from what I can tell its not very loud but it bothers me since I'm trying to get this car up like new condition. Thanks everyone for the input.

Rod bearings tend to quickly lead to something like this....

It's possible -- but I don't think you'd make it a year.

Can you post a video or link?
