Default Callaway 944 Turbo on Craigslist

Except without the most important part. . . . the turbo!!!

http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/cto/3091020359.html

Doesn't seem like too bad of a price though, for a car that in a backwards way had some historical significance at one point.

No affiliation...

Figured I'll post the ad's text and photos for future thread archives.

1983 Porsche 944 - $3000 (Palm Bay)

1983 Porsche 944. This is one of 29 that were turbo charged by Callaway when they were first introduced on the market. However, the turbo has since been removed. White with black and chrome rims. Has a roll cage and 5 point harness ready for autocross. Power windows and pop top sunroof. A/C needs to be recharged but is a reliable daily driver or autocross toy. e-mail if interested. more pictures on request

Nostalgia I suppose?

1 out of 29 or 38 or whatever the real number is, is kinda cool. (shrug)

They were indeed super rare cars, and although I have seen a couple for sale throughout the years, they are always seemed to be priced well over $10k, even double or triple for a super mint one.

I recall seeing a few threads about people wanting to do a Callaway style turbo setup on their NA, since it was small and simple but made nearly equal power to a 951. Aside from different motor internals, the neat thing was that the turbo was integrated on the exhaust manifold side of the motor for numerous benefits.

But all that is irrelevant if a plain-Jane 944 motor was swapped in... However I wonder if maybe the original Callaway built motor is still in it?..."with the turbo removed"...? I suppose the owner might know.

I'm not even sure if the Callaway cars had any other upgrades such as suspension. This one claims to have a roll cage. I see at least a roll bar back there but no door bars.

Anyway, I thought it was cool... figured posting it up might inspire someone to check into it. It could potentially be a diamond in the rough. Or maybe just plain rough. Who knows.

Did a quick RL search, check it out.

I tried a new link.. Give it a shot, let me know if it's still failing.

I basically did an advanced search "Callaway", thread titles only, and 924/944 section only. And the search brought up a couple dozen different results to browse through.

Why didn't Porsche design the 951 with the turbo under the exhaust manifold like it the pic?? Seems like much more
Efficient then in the other side of the engine
