Is this normal for dash gauges?
My nephew and I are enjoying working on our 1984 944, even though neither one of us knows a thing about Porsches.
One thing that has us scratching our heads is the operation of the dash gauges. They only work when the headlight switch is on, either for parking lights or headlights. The tach and speedo work all the time. This doesn't seem right to either of us. Seems like the gauges should work with the lights off, too.
So, is this normal?
We know someone previously had gotten into the electrical system. Used a lot of electrical tape to splice wires together. We just don't know if this is normal or not.

Didn't think so!
No real point in asking for help on this one. Someone (PO?) probably yanked some wires and changed the power for the gauges from the ignition switch to the headlight switch.
Gonna take a loooooong time to figure out the correct wiring, then located the wires under the dash, then try to fix it!
I hate amateur electricians!
