There are a ton of cars I would like to own, but the two leading canidates of the moment would be:
E30 318is w/ a S50 swapped in, along with a 5 lug conversion
Datsun 240Z w/ L28 block, tripple webber side drafts

Non-Porsche would be:
Nissan 300ZX TT, Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7 TT
Some other fun cars in that price range:
Mazdaspeed6 (previously owned one), Mazdaspeed3, Mercedes AMG C55, BMW M3, Honda S2000, Nissan 350Z/370Z (previously owned two)
I have owned WRX and STi and those are fast and reliable. Easy to mod and easy to daily drive.
I have been debating about picking up a new 2013 lately for a new daily driver.

I bought my 2002 BMW M5 after I lost my 951 in an accident. I posted about the crash here a while back. Anyway, I picked up the Bimmer on Aug 28th 2011, so its going on 2 years and I LOVE the car. 400hp, 4 doors and it doesn't take s**t from anyone. I won't divulge on any "yo boi street racing" but I'll just say that if it's a Camaro SS or a Stang (non of that Boss nonsense) then I'm bye bye in about 3rd gear.
Enough about speed. What about Comfort... Are you kidding me?! These were $80k brand new! When I say I have leather everywhere, I mean Plastic is found in sparce amounts. I picked mine up with the extended leather package. Also, Every Singe E39 M5 comes with navigation and most have the options that were available. The M was better equipped than any non-M 5 series. Alcantara headliner, multi-power seats (with heaters up front) and its all complete with a Getrag 6 speed and INDIVIDUAL THROTTLEBODIES.
When I say throttle response is fast, I mean my 944 was high speed *** Cable Internet and my M5 is Fiber Optic... Sport button does one thing. Sharpen throttle response. In factory form the throttles can be actuated in micro-radii. Thus the gas pedal can get jumpy if you accidentally goose from a red-light. HOWEVER, with sport "Off" the gas feels more Honda-Civic-ish.
Now I did my research- I looked. I waited 2 years after losing the 944 to look around. At least a year and a half. I determined that I wanted maybe a different car. I tested out 3 different local 951's and thought about S2's. I wanted some speed, nice comfort, and most of all, I wanted that feeling of getting into something nice. I've always said that your car represents your character. I always thought the 951 was just "me". Aggressively modest; not shouty but not "fade into the crowd" boring. I needed something that gave me the same overall enjoyment.
Before Getting the Porsche, long ago, I had looked at several cars. AW11 MR2's, Supercharged Miatas, Even Alfa Romeo 75's (Milano). So when I needed replacement, I went back to my roots. I wanted balance. I wanted comfort. I wanted fun, but I needed practicality. And it needed to be fun in more than a straight line. The one BIG competitor to the 944 is the M3. E36, specifically. That was the basis for my new car-to-have.
I searched for months. I mean MONTHS. I looked on every forum and listing site for information. I always do. I learned that the 90's M3 in the US trim doesn't get the fancy 320 some-odd hp engine. Rather a dumbed-down 240hp. Buzzkill... However I kept on it, looking for Euro-swaps, maybe a Canadian spec car.
One day, in my search I looked up BMW M's up to $17k or so. Among the M3's sat an Imola Red M5... 2001. My first thought was, "No way. Someone listed the wrong car, or this thing is trashed." Turns out NOT. Here was a sedan with a 4.9 liter V8, 7000 RPM screamer, top speed somewhere north of 180 without speed governor. NOW we're working on something. I make a big reference to the speed and power, but I maintain that I do not want to just go fast down the freeway. And the M5 delivers.
If there were EVER a 4 door replacement for the 951, the M5 it HAS to be. Nearly 50/50 balance. Great power anywhere in the rev-band. Smooth. Sporty ride and comfortable enough to cross the country in. I won't say the car is perfect, but we all know about German sports cars. Just have to do your research, know what to take care of. I would maintain that the car is as easy to take care of as any 944. I'm happy...

That's a hard one... I've had quite a few other cars, and have had the pleasure/luck of driving a lot more. Honestly, most other cars really make me appreciate the 951 more. I owned an E39 M5 for a few years, and it was nice, and pretty freakin' fast... But I'd still rather drive my 951.
That said, If I had to choose, I think I'd probably have to say a Factory 5 replica of a Shelby Daytona Coupe: https://www.factoryfive.com/kits/typ.../complete-kit/ It's a little more than the budget, but we're dreaming here, right?

My personal experience has me lusting after another 951. I think it's just a car that is so vastly dynamic that there isn't much else that can compare without sacrificing in one area or another. Porsche just got the formula right. But that's where I have to commend BMW. They got the M5 right too. Now I HAVE brought this up with my friends. They all LOVE the M5 and say there's no way the Porsche was better. The only one that understands is my girlfriend. She's a 928 owner on here... She understands!
On ANY day, if someone came up to me and offered a trade, straight up, between my BMW any my 951 (in the condition I originally got it in). I'd have to waive bye to the M5. BUT... It treats me right. It is different, but the perfect compliment to any garage, in the same respect that the 951 is. By the way, I paid $15k for my M5. It's been great on Maintenance and I have had a GREAT relationship with it.

If i were in europe, I would get a Lotus Carlton/Opel Omega. Big 3.6L I6 Twin Turbocharged Intercooled, No Electronic Limiter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Carlton
Last i saw they were holding steady at 16K Pounds Sterling for one in good condition.

I'd have to agree with 944 obscene. The E39 M5 is one of my all time favorite cars! For the money you can't find anything as bad *** as the M5.

this is my friend's old excursion that i was driving down from sanfran for him...i am 6'6" for comparison...6.0L 32v turbodiesel, over 400HP/600ftlbs....8000lbs shouldn't be so fast.

Certainly wouldn't be any BMW. Made that mistake once. Vile POS that was.
At this point not much interests me. I'd put that money towards a gently-used 997S.
