Though some rennlisters would appreciate some simple DIY for you folks with an hour to spare. I found it hard to fork out $40 for a set of simple bent pieces of steel this weekend. So I ran down to the local lowes and picked up a piece of 1/8" steel bar for the princely sum of $4. A little bit of drilling, cutting, bending and painting resulted in this:

With the money I saved on sway bar braces I decided to splurge a little on some stainless teflon lined rod ends and made a new shift linkage support rod to replace the dinky little pressed steel item

I had some guys at work whip me up a few sets of sway bar braces. Its not a silly idea. All it cost me was a packet of biscuits.

I didn't really have a plan for them drawn up. They are such a simple design that you can really just wing it for measurements. My whole design process took all of 2 minutes and is so ghetto that I am almost embarrassed to show it. I took a piece of cardboard and mocked up a design. The total length of the braces are 178mm long with bends at 44mm and 148mm. The two smaller bolts are M8 size and the large crossmember bolts are M12 size. I mounted the piece of cardboard to the car and bent a piece of wire to measure the bend angles. The slot at the crossmember bolts allow for alot of fore and aft adjustment. Almost any monkey should be able to put a set together with basic tools.

First time I asked for biscuits here in the states someone handed me a bunch of scones and a bowl of white peppery liquid with meat in it to dip them in. Seems they only have crackers and cookies here. Definitely don't ask for bikkies and a cuppa. They will have no idea.

Bought 3 feet of 1 inch wide by 3/16 steel bar yesterday. Had a look under the car to plan the brackets and noticed that my sway bar bracket bolts aren't in line with the cross-member bolt. Is there a bend in the bar that I can't tell from the pictures? Are the folds at a slight angle? Is my car special? When I mocked up my high precision template with a piece of cardboard, the sway bar bracket bolts are off center from the CM bolt.

Now is the perfect time to align the sway bar brackets where they should be.
