Man its been a long time since I've posted here!

Today while driving my the red ! light and the oil pressure light started coming on when I wasn't above 2k rpms. Car has plenty of oil, the engine is running perfectly, and the temperatures are very low.

Is this indicative of sensor failure? I mean, if the oil pressure was really that low wouldn't the lifters be clacking like crazy?

I read a few old threads on this and am preparing to try and test the sensor, just thought I'd ask for opinions.

To be safe i would buy a pressure gauge and hook it up to your block and see the actual number.
Low oil pressure to me comes with hi oil temps. But if you don't have hi oil temps then maybe the sensor isn't touching the oil and it reading falsely low. Check your crank bolt, make sure it is nice and tight. Think the torque setting is 150 ft lbs.

You also may be having your oil pump failing. Albiet rare, it may work but not well. My car was doing a similar thing and this is what i was left with….

a stuck or sticky oil pressure regulator can do this too.

It's the oil pressure sensor. If the oil pressure was actually so low that the light was coming on, you would have lots of lifter noise

I don't think it's the sender... All the bad senders I've seen have had the needle pin at 5+ bar. Remember, the sensor really has 2 parts and 2 wires - one is for the needle and one is for the light.

Since you're having both a low needle reading *and* the light, it's unlikely both parts of the sender died.

It's time to do more diagnosing... I'd say the three biggest culprits are: stuck OPRV, cracked oil pickup tube and slipping oil pump drive gear.
