is it not true that we took kuwait from iraq? huh? they were just after what was theirs before. so this all boils down to who started it. no one knows for sure.

but in the school fight after you deck the kid picking on you, in my experience he goes to his parents or friends, and either you get in big trouble with the parents or you get gang beaten.

I have been picked on before, had things stolen from me, lost good friends, but never once did i go kill someone because something bad happened to me. in fact, i have never even hit a person (with intent to hurt). I pride myself on this and if you disagree so be it.

Actually i am a socialist, my favorite band has members who are communists, and i disagree with the people that are sopposed to be representing me. but what is so great about this country is, i CAN feel this way.

I have no problem with americans generally. It is typically that attitude matt that gives you guys the bad rap. That ra ra! bs that you see all the time in movies. All I was saying is that America has put it's nose in affairs for which it had no business. And to Tabor, Loss really is Loss any way you slice it.
Peace

Ahh, an Australian! I really thought to hear Australia backing the U.S. as well. I'm sure they would if it came down to that. I hold respect for you guys as well. Makes me feel good that all of these countries are ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with the U.S. on this.

marooned,
Must you really wonder why the U.S. puts their nose in everything? It's because we are a free world country. We are supposed to be setting an example for the rest of the world. In a sense, we are the "police" for the world trying to keep things together. When a country is out of line, it effects the whole world, so we need to make it our business to see that every country is doing wehat they should be doing and staying in line. Just think if the U.S. was suddenly not here? It'd be pretty bad...

Sony what about vietnam huh? How do you justify that? Because the vietnamese people wanted to choose their own path and the U.S didn't agree with this. I'm talking about communism here.. As far as punishment is concerned, there is no doubt in my mind that those responsible should be punished. How and what I don't know...

Sony,

God bless America and everyone who has given themselves and their lives to keep it free.
"given themselves" to mean those in uniform.

When the US military strikes, non-combatants are NOT chosen as targets. This specifically includes urban areas, schools, churches, etc. There are mistakes (the stray cruise missile is a perfect example). Today was an attack on both non-combatants and a military target.

It is true the US and select NATO nations have been bombing military targets in the middle east almost continuously since the gulf war. These sites are usually anti aircraft weapons or other military targets. Its so commonplace that it never makes the news.

There has been no confirmation that Osama Bin Ladin is responsible for this act.

Just thought I would set the record straight.

Red face

Wow.. What a day, what an event. Condolences, and appreciation to the people who helped clean up, rescue, and support. A thought.. This probably has roots in the religious wars of the mid-east. As George Carlin so frankly put it, "Two countries fighting over who has the best imaginary friend". More people have died at war in the name of religion than all diseases known to man. Sure, it's horrifying, but in their lands things like this happen every day, (albeit on a smaller scale)..many of them feel we, the great and free USA, are indirect supportors of their horrors. (are we?) Who could blame them for retaliating? When you think about it, it's surprising it hasn't happened sooner. Goodness knows it's not from the lack of trying. They say it was a huge, coordinated attack.. I think it was 8 or 9 determined, crazy (by our standards) extremeists. Yes, the world will change. We will become much more suspicious, scared peoples. And we, the still standing, should be thankful for all that is ours, for we are the most fortunate of all, ('specially cause we gots' Porsches!!) It's good to be king, but there will always be someone trying to knock you off the top.
Sorry to all who lost loved ones. The way of life working and dwelling around 100 story buildings is kind of hard to imagine for the majority of us, You'd have to set off an awfully big bomb to get 10k people around the rest of the USA.. Special thanks to all the military making great sacrifices so that the rest of us can sleep at night with that warm fuzzy feeling. We may be in the minority with that luxury.
May the agressors be located, and promptly eradicated without escalation.

PS.. Ya think many survivors will tell the wife to call in and say "he never came home", collect a healthy check and escape the bills to Barbados?

PPS.. I have read many suicide "bombers" are promised by Alah (or whomever their higher being is) the services of 138 virgins in the afterlife, as a reward for their great sacrifice. (I guess the number of virgins varies with the amount of collateral damage) Can you imagine the grinning idiot at the wheel thinking he will soon meet many eager virgins? It is an insane thought by our standards, but there is a waiting list for assignments. It's a crazy world out there.

Soory for your losses.

Venting..

Might I also add that in a Communism the Government has complete control over the press and can say whatever they wish. There is no Freedom of the Press. They may say that nothing ever happened to the WTC and whatever else they might like to add. Just my thoughts on Communism...

Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. I thought I would never see this day. I have lived in a police sate and experienced civil war along with it's unspeakable horrors first hand. I've now lived a large part of my adult life in the US, consider it my home, my safe haven and all those horrors and fears were in the back of mind until today. So sorry I feel for all the victims of this atrocity.
Tabor: with all due respect, an event like this may just change your life, judging by the response to your initial comment that may have started already, still we are all entitled to our opinion, but smaller events have resulted in major wars and have changed the world for the better or worse depending on one's viewpoint. I hope you never have to be stopped at a check point with a gun to your chest fearing for your life, or to have to apply for a permit to travel 50 miles to see your Family, or to be stripped of most civil liberties we all take for granted. You could argue that this scenario is far fetched, but I ask, how many of you woke up today and thought that the US would suffer and act of war ?

My hopes and prayers go to the innocents, may they rest in peace.

Tabor... yes loss of life is horrible regardless of the cause and it always hurts the loved-ones involved. And yes, the American Press does have a way of "Dramatizing" certain matters while seemingly overlooking others. I should know, I used to work in the media/television news industry. …And YES the American media regularly ignores what happens in the rest of the world while, “Making mountains out of a mole hills” here at home. For what it’s worth, it’s for these very reasons, among others, that I no longer work in that industry, it was more than I could stomach. HOWEVER… I can honestly say in THIS situation, I don’t really feel the media can begin to truly convey the shear magnitude of what has happened. In fact, in a day and age when the media seems to thrive on showing “reality TV” and the “no one is sacred” mentality which only 30 years ago would have never shown a body bag or hand sticking out of rubble, has voluntarily, “censored” itself from showing ALL that has happened at the base of the WTC. Why??? Because it’s THAT HAINOUS! Believe me, there is much footage, which has been taken that we haven’t seen. I must admit I commend them for this one show of decency.

Make NO mistake... this WILL change the world FOREVER and YOUR life too. Just wait until the next time you try and take a flight ANYWHERE! Or attempt to travel to another country. Or the interest on that 6% flat rate gold card in your wallet goes up due to a weakening global economy. And so on.. and so on.. and so on. Not to mention, this is by no means the end of it… it’s only the beginning. The ripples are only beginning to make waves. Until this morning I couldn’t possible imagine the scenario that has played out… And I sure as hell can’t begin to imagine what will come.

Death IS part of life, we all know that, however that does change the fact that premeditated death by deliberate intent and with malice is WRONG! PERIOD!!! Whether we’re to blame or someone else is.

Don’t disrespect those who have, are and WILL die as a result of this by being so callous. I commend you for attempting to look at this for the other guy’s point of view. But don’t disrespect them either because of your headstrong unwillingness to come together on this… It’s exactly THAT type of attitude that leads to these kinds of matters in the first place. There IS room for both points of view. Be the bigger guy here by thinking about what you say, before you say it.

God help us all, the real victims here are the survivors, those who have to live on in the aftermath. Those who have died have hopefully gone on to a better place.

long before the gulf war started, iraq had possesion of kuwait, this was before kuwait ever existed, it was a part of iraq. kuwait then became a nation on it's own for various politcal reasons. i bet you didn't know this because the media didn't want you to know. iraq then felt the need to reclaim kuwait (most likely for the huge value of the oil), well they did. and what happened from there was, saudi arabia was afraid that iraq wouldn't stop there. so we sent whatever we had to tell sadam that he can't do that. and by this, we L I B E R A T E D kuwait.
