OT: 944na vs new mustang
No, this is not another stop light race post. I just drove my buddies girlfriends new mustang to the store and back. I was impressed with only how unimpressed I was. I finally fealt that "disconected" feeling some posters spoke of while driving other cars. My 944 feels like an extension of me. That thing felt slugish and underpowered for it's weight, Slow throttle response, and it handled like a RC boat. The funny thing was that I wasn't even close to doing any really spirited driving, My 88 944 has been pushed alot harder and still seemed well under it's limits, and yesterday was somewhat cool in AZ standards but this new mustang had a hot engine that was ticking and tapping after I parked it. I haven't driven in a month or so and I was expecting some more fun from a "sports car". As I walked inside I kept expecting it to fall apart like the blues mobile did in the movie. I just made me love and miss my P-car even more.

Any new vehicle will do this, it's because the exhaust expands while driving it, then cools and shrinks when you stop. Causing a "ticking" noise.

I drove one of my co-worker's Mustang GT and thought it was OK. Nothing to write home about but then again I wasn't in a position to really stomp on the gas. It was the first 8 cyclinder I'd ever driven! I guess that tells you a little about my tastes. If I had to choose between that Mustang GT and my old '86 VW GTI I'd pick the GTI (and I'd rather drive my 944 than the GTI). I agree with Roberto, the Mustang didn't feel very sporty.

When I was looking for a new car this year I drove numerous Bmw's, Audi's,VW,s etc. After years of owning the typical Japanese family sedan I was ready to upgrade to a better more sportier car.One day during my search I walked into a Ford dealership and took out a brand new v8 "stang".It was the worst car I have ever driven.Compared to the fine handling of the european cars it felt like a big old boat:vague undefined handling and a crude gear box .I was totally shocked.
It definately is not what I like in a car.So what did I purchase? A 30,000 dollar Bmw 328 or an Audi A4? No,a real sports car.A 7,000 dollar 1985.5 944na.I absolutely love it.

Speaking of the Cobra, I want to drive a REAL Cobra. You know, Carol's car. That is my true dream car. The shelby cobra 427. A huge power plant that shakes the whole car, That overbearing sound, and it's completely impractical as a daily driver, but It's still one of the few cars I would trade my Porsche for. Speed and handeling that still sets performance benchmarks. I believe the body was desighned by British AC, In my opinion the most beautifull curves ever(for a car). That completely unmistakable look. Didn't it do 0-100-0 in some ungodly quick number like 14 seconds? My memory is fogy but I seem to recall that number. But anyway, that car is to far out of my price range.
