Default Classic 9/Ideola carpet kits, domestic/german loop...

Hi,

I am looking into buying a carpet kit from Ideola's Garage which is made by Classic 9 shop, and they offer the domestic carpet or German carpet for significantly more money.

Anybody have experience with either (or both) types of carpet? I am hoping for some samples but would like people's real life stories about how the carpet feels, looks and holds up.

The domestic carpet is a Spectropile which appears to be a durable type of marine carpeting, and it looks like carpet I've seen in other cars. Is the German carpet more expensive because its from Germany, or its that much nicer?

I bought the domestic. I was happy with it for a non-molded one, except for the rear -- I found it a bit too light (two layers of carpet stuck together) to fit well and look right.

There is a company that makes complete carpet kits for pretty cheap. I had a guy look it up at my local upholstery shop. It was in the neighborhood of about $400.

Call Classic 9. They're good people and easy to work with.

Did you have to end up shaping the pieces? How?

I've seen the domestic in a black 968. The car had a 'track car' theme, so it looked great in that aspect. A bit thinner and the cabin was a bit noisier compared to stock, but it looked nice. Not fantastic, but nice. The back was also a problem I remember (non molded), so they simply didn't install it. Just left it naked back there.

Bumping this because I am replacing my disgusting carpet as well. It's $799 for the kit from Ideola's Garage. Does it come with everything premolded? Like the part under the front seats, the stuff in the back that goes up under the back seats, the two pieces that surround the insides of the trunk, and whatever else i'm forgetting?

A few years ago I worked with AppBiz out of California to develop an RS Carpet kit for the 944/951. I used a lighter weight carpet but i'm sure they can make it from any of the many carpets they offer. Not OEM, but another option to consider and a nice look for a track/DE car. I started a DIY thread about it if you search my name and RS Carpet Kit.
