Default Manual sunroofs

Just got my manual sunroof today from Erau et al. Made it in fine shape. Neds a little paint and a new seal.

Anyways. The question. I recall someone has done the conversion before. I just got off the phone with George at 944 Ecology and he says the monting points on the roof are different and you can't just boly in the manual cups.

So a custom one is needed. I thought that someone here had done it. Anyone have any drawings and the like? Any suggestions?

I converted my sunroof to manual from power using 78 924 brackets. If I remember correctly there was a slight difference in the panel. The 87 had more strength to it . I had to do some minor sawing on the panel for the manual brackets to work . The 78 panel dropped right in. On the car body itself , the mounting holes were already there . They were not being used for the power sunroof brackets. I used the original 87 panel because it didn't need painted.

My panel is screwed, so I'm going to use the new one.

Any source for 78 924 brackets?

George didn't think it would work.

Man, I'd love to switch over to a manual sunroof. It's not like the power mechanism is needed to slide the whole roof panel out of the way or something. Kind of seems like overkill (read stupid) when the latches for a manual tilt would only be inches from your head.

Hey Shawn and Mac Lover, I mean Sid how about some picture of just the details (manual bracket, etc)

Also, has anyone else noticed little cracks and crazing in their roof panel. I seem to have a bunch of little hairline cracks around the edges and corners of my sunroof panel. It is starting to look kind of yuck!

Hey Chris. :P

Manning. Sounds to me like they took a hit.

I'll take some pics. And I'll probably have a bracket made at work. If I do I'll get drawings to share. Can't make them for people unfortunately.

Be nice if one of our fine Rennlist vendors made a kit to do this.
I would sure be a buyer.

I checked out the part numbers and it looks like parts are all the same for the manual sunroofs up thru 85 anyway. (924 and 944) I will try to get a couple of pictures for you but I will have to tear the interior off to get them.

Hey Shawn, that would rock, but don't sweat it if it is more trouble than it is worth.

Shawn taking off that valance piece isn't that difficult.

But George said that the problem is the manual cups won't mount onto the roof. I'm going to see if I can modify whats there though. Let you guys know.

Pics of the sunroof latches.

YEah the mechanisim is so simple. Once I get it working it will be easy as pie. Can't imagine it will be oo difficult. After painting I can have the Canadians make a bracket at the worse.

Sorry it took so long to reply. It wasn't a matter of difficulty in removing the valance it was a matter of time. I finally got a couple of pictures of the manual latches from my sunroof. I also found some part numbers. My parts are from a 78, 924. The number I found is for 1981 . It lists 477 817 033 for the left and 477 817 034 for the right. I could not come up with a listing for a 78. The mounting holes were already in my roof . I did not need to drill or weld anything, they bolted right on. I do not know where to upload the pictures to.
