Yeah I was just thinking that maybe, for your sake, it would be easier for you (and more cost effective) to produce one that would potentially fit them all or most.

Dear Feather: I was looking at my 83 944 yesterday and trying to visulize a cowling cover for it..that would cover everything except the battery, which could be a separate piece for the early and late cars since the battery position changed..looks like it would work fine and add a lot to the car..A wiring harness cover would be a nice dress-up addition as well. Just to summarize--I am working on three forms for Cowl Covers for this series of Porsche cars. One will be for the 77 to 82 924, which did not have a cowl cover and in which the battery sits crossways to the car and longways with the cowl. That Cover will be formed in two pieces with one piece being removable to access the battery. The piece covering the battery will look like it is just part of the whole cowl cover and it will function like the rest of the cover, in terms of drainage and such. That Cover is only in the earliest stages of development, but it will require the least and wont be too difficult to finish when I get back to it.
The second Cover is being designed to work for the 83 to 85, (up to the 85.5) 944 and for the 924S. I don't think those cars had a Cowl Cover either. It is nearly finished and will consist of a complete cover from about 3 inches inside the inside edge of the fenders, but will have a cut-out for the battery which will have a separate cover that will just snap into place being held to the cover and firewall along three edges.
The third and final form is going to apply to the 85.5 and beyond 944 and perhaps the 968. So far the only difference I can see with the 968 is that it does not have the Windshield Lugs near the outer ends. I think I can do the form so it can be used to form with or without the gap for the lugs. This Cover will also extend to about 3 inches from the inner edge of the fenders. It will have equal and opposite covers for the battery and for the fuse cover/box. I just glued the last two hump components on the form last nite and will try to finish them out with the rasp and sandpaper today. Then I have to figure out just how to have this cover fit around the WS wipers, and just how far to extend it outboard under the windshield.
This last cover may also become convertible to work for the RHD cars.

Before setting this project aside to work on a couple of other projects I made the decision about how far to extend the rear edge of the later 944 Cover to each side, and I had cut the form off at those points. Now that I am able to get back to this I have put some material in for the raised ribs and have some rib strips cut and sanded for the form for the early 944 and 924S form. I'll glue those in shortly. I am also finalizing the outer ends of the later form to accommodate the two covers that I'll be making for it; and I have finalized the battery and fuse cover forms, which will be formed separately and out of 3/32 inch material rather than the 1/16 that the basic Cowl Covers will be formed out of.
I still have to figure out how to make the recesses in the aft edge of the forms for the WSW cutouts and for the convertible cutouts for the WS Lugs. I'll probably do those in my mill, but one of them is going to be real awkward.
I took some pictures of one of these forms and as soon as I can download them I'll post them. That will solve some of the mystery associated with this project, I think.

Here are some pictures of the later 944/968 Cowl Cover Form that is nearing completion. The two covers on the ends are kind of elevated in these pictures because they are separate forms and are sitting atop the form for the basic Cover.
I continue to make a little progress on the development of these newly designed Cowl Covers for the 924/.944/968 Porsches. However, yard work and redecorating my rental property has gotten in my way, along with some other projects lately. I think another thing that is kind of holding me back is the fact that I don't have a late model 944 in which to test that version of these Covers when I get them formed.
What I need to do to finish up the forms is detail the rear edge of the cover form to match up with the WS lugs in the 924 and 944 version and do so in such a way that the 944 cover can also be formed without that cut out provision since the 968 doesn't have them. Then I think I am going to need to do the battery cover and the fuse cover cover to match better the way they are going to be mounted in the car. I think my present design is just slightly too short.

I got sidetracked by several things, and that, coupled with some apparent lack of interest and the lack of an available late 944 for final fitting, I kind of set this whole project aside for a while. The 944/968 form(s) are pretty well finished and the late 924/924S and early 944 form (I think) is not quite so close to being finished, but not too far off. The later of these is the one I can actually fit since I have both an 80 924 and an 87 924S. The form for the earliest 924s is the one that is not even quite started, or just barely started. It has to be different since the battery sits differently from the later ones.
I'll let you know when I get back to these.

Dunno how much interest you've gotten so far, but I would love a new cowl cover for my '87.
