unbelievable, that your car was totalled.
My friend, Sami951, who is an expert in wreckin' p-cars
had a much worse accident, and still it was fixed.
Here's some pics from the scene of the crime..

sorry to hear about your accident.
keep the car.

After all was said and done I ended up with almost 8K in my pocket and my car back. If there was no frame damage I would have had it fixed even if the insurance company didn't total it. I can't see fxing it. As for moving the parts to another car, yes it is a lot of work, but its a hobby. But since I already have a 968 engine that intended to go into this car, it's not much more work than I had originally planned. I'll be taking the gutted S to a body shop later this year, (it's cheaper in the off season) for a full spray and then the rebuild will begin!

Meanwhile, I'll tool around in the 86 NA, I just have to resist putting too much work into that one!

Thanks everyone for you kind words and ideas.

Mike

Have it checked out. Until you look under there and into it properly we can only be guessing here...

I had a major whack at the rear in my previous 944 - hatch shattered but there was no under carriage damage.

Jack the car up in the workshop and have it assessed - it does not look that bad to me.

Rear quarter punches do tend to crease the wing - means nothing - could be just that.

Sorry man - **** happens I know how you feel...

You got $8k for a car that would have sold for less! Be happy with that, sell the parts you don't want, and move on. Why straighten the frame if you can buy another car (or fix your already straight S or '86)?

My question: How did you get the insurance to pay more than "book" value?

Insurance values are very dependent upon the area in which you live. My car was in very good shape with less than average miles for the year. Also private sales and commercial sales prices vary greatly, so maybe the retail price was used. (I've seen 944S's for 10K plus at dealers around here, and they didn't look half as good as my car) Maybe since the guy who did the damage was totally at fault and was cited influenced the value, it was his insurance that totaled it. I did have quite a few upgrades on the car. I thought the settlement was fair for the time and effort I put into car, taking into account I got the car back.
