Default 3D Printing for the 944

After a nice Sunday afternoon drive, I decided to fix a few plastic things that had been bothering me.

One seat back tabs was missing since the PO, so I modeled an existing tab and printed it off. I used red ABS in a Makerbot Replicator 2X.

Then, to save the shins of unsuspecting passengers, I sketched up some glovebox limit hangers. They seem to be the right length, but I would modify the part of the hanger that is sandwiched in the glovebox door.

If anyone has other printing ideas, let me know! I thought this thread could be a could place to pitch ideas.

For those interested in models, I will be uploading to grabcad or thingiverse with all of my 944-related CAD.

Great work! Keep it coming, if I have any ideas I'll post em here. By the way, maybe its just that particular picture but your paint looks FANTASTIC! Was it very recently resprayed? It looks deeper and richer than factory guards red.

What about A/C ***** that have recesses so you can paint them and not have to worry about fade?

neat. Could hit it with some sand paper to smoothen it out.

I second the shifter **** cap. If you could make them that would be awesome. The $30 everyone charges for new ones is nuts. Plus you could do something custom, like a script '944' in it or something.

Curious what the per piece time and cost is on the printer? And what access you have to it. I may want to bump some things past you since I can't get parts like that through in my Corp. environment.

Have you considered printing 2 part split negative images with 2-3 deg drafts for fiberglass molds of smaller items.

It was resprayed before I purchased it. Not a Concours job, for sure, but does give it a nice rich guards look. The picture does make it look deeper than in real life, however. Thanks for noticing though.

Yeah, there are a couple finishing techniques I'd like to try.

Both great ideas! Build envelope is about 9"x6"x6".

This is my personal machine, though my Master's research also happens to be in 3D printing (on a much more intense printer). I'd be interested in making some small molds for ducting, etc.

I just realized that we're in the same neck of the woods, too. If you ever need a sample part from an early car, let me know.

Custom phone dock for the early center speaker grill would be awesome. Retaining rings for early shift boots are really hard to find too.
