No affiliation, just seemed interesting. I guess it still has the original '89 5-speed.

Well. It's a good thing I don't live in/near Alabama, at that price.

That looks like Matt Olde's former 944S3 project. Do a search on here, there are quite a few threads on it and he used to have a site devoted to it.

I've been toying with the idea of getting back in the 944/968 saddle again. If the current owner didn't hack Matt's work, this is tempting.
This worries me
Recently discovered head gasket leak.
edit: why did I post this and then go to google maps. this is very dangerous - unless she who must be obeyed gives the blessing.

Odd that he would use an older style front bumper instead of the 951 style front bumper that came standard on the car..

the car was an '89 NA non-S/2 to start, that's the bumper it always had.

There's quite a bit of money that would need to be dumped into that car to bring it up to our standards.

Besides the gasket leak, I'd bet its due for belts/WP. I'd also want to replace the cam chain guide if for no other reason than age at this point. Then there's the ticking time bomb of having the N/A transaxle mated to the 3.0. I know others will disagree but N/A transaxles aren't robust.

Cosmetically the car is still in the project category. It needs bodywork and paint.

I know Matt did a good job on the conversion and it was well documented, but I've always been wary of buying other people's work, and in this case you'd be buying it from someone other than the person that did the work.

I think its probably a good buy for someone wanting a track car.

Nice to see the car pop back up again. It's one of the cars that I identify with the better days of what the 944 forum used to be here on Rennlist.

It would still be fun and worth the effort, my S3 (previously S2) is a lot of fun. I've got an NA box sitting around that I've thought about putting in it for the shorter gears just for a "fun" summer. If it blows up the trans? eh oh well.

BUY IT. The cam pads are $100 and would be done along with the headgasket, the WP is only if you need to do it. The rest is cake. You could fix it up in 2 weekends if you have the parts. Maybe one if your quick. Look for the cam pad how to in the 968 forum.

I had an NA gearbox in my S3 and it only lasted a month, this car seems like a fun project though.

Curse you Jeremy. You typed exactly what I was thinking!
Your post just about sums up the conversation she who must be obeyed and I had last night.

Time for ice cream and clowns.

I think I want another S2 or a 968 primarily for DE. I don't want to get rid of the M Roadster which I want to keep as the weekend cruiser, and don't want to keep my DD Astra outside at night, so a somewhat cosmetically challenged car is OK
