Just got my new water pump in today from Sonnen...because it didn't ship on Monday he shipped it 2 day to make sure it go to me today. Sweet.

The pump they sell for the above mentioned price ALSO includes ALL of the hardware including a block off for the turbo thermostat area, O-ring, and the bolts and nuts...as well as the gasket of course.

I looked the pump over. It has a Porsche part number stamped on the back, but otherwise no manufacturer markings that I can make out positively as something. It looks however identical to the one that I just had finished pulling off the car, brassy looking drive up front. The only difference I see is that this one painted a gray darker than aluminum.

It does have a metal impeller.

The one coming off the car was installed in 2004 and in ten years and 100,000 miles it has NOT leaked a bit or had any issues. Been great. So I'm happy with this purchase for a good price, Porsche warranty and everything except a thermostat with it (nor the turbo one).

It is going on my car......after lunch!

For the little difference that it cost get a real Porsche pump. The alternative being a pump seizure and engine damage!

There is an ad on the Phoenix craigslist for an unused rebuilt Beck Arnley pump for sale for $70.00. I'd rather spend triple that than have to spend $3000 to rebuild my engine before it's time again

Simple. The water pump seizes and maybe tears up the block but certainly shreds the timing belt. It will cause the pistons to hit the valve train and the your looking for a rebuilt engine!

tears up the block? zany.

umm, I think you're thinking of the failed thrust bearing/d.o.a. shark engine.

in the case of a seized pump on a 944 most likely....

1. you'll smell coolant for at least 500~1000 miles leading up to the big event...

2. and you'll be topping off your overflow reservoir...

3. you'll see steam emanating most prominently from the passenger side of the timing belt cover for (at least 500~1000 miles),

4. the car will begin to run hot at much shorter intervals as the air bubble at the top of the engine becomes a problem.... (ok, now) you're getting close to seizure, and the bent valve scenario.

5. Boom !! well, more like a thud... calling the tow truck. still not a dead engine, but, a big time/$$$ job all so you can have the petulant, 30 year old, low-displacement, mid-fi, bleed-you-dry, semi-rebuildable, engine up and running again for a couple or ten thousand more miles....
