Default Composite clutch pedal arm --> Steel?

I am running an aftermarket clutch master cylinder on my 1990 S2. Right now i have a piece of steel that adapts the master to the pedal, but i'd like to replace it with a heim joint.

Is it possible to switch the composite (1990+) clutch pedal arm to an earlier style steel unit? Are any other parts required?

If i can swap out the arms then i could simply weld in a bolt that is the correct diameter pin for the heim joint, rather than coming up with something more intricate to get the heim inside of the composite arm.

I found the following diagram of the two systems, but no other information.
