I've been looking for a second car for a while now to use while my 944 is getting repaired etc.

Not many cars fit the budget I would like to pay, that I can actually fit in. And not many cars in the budget I would like to pay are interesting cars or have likely been taken care of

The 944 to this date is the car that I fit in best, it is the most comfortable to drive and has the most leg room and head room I've seen yet in a vehicle its size.

So would just buying another one to drive be a decent idea to be able to work on my first car more? Fixing the car to get it going up front is no problem to me This 944 might end up getting the lifted off-roady treatment I was asking about in previous threads too..

Or would something else be better? Anything that is cheaper to insure than another 944

My 944s have been good to me as my first and only cars. I am able to, however, borrow other family cars if I ever get in a pickle with either snow or the occasional starting problem and I'm in a rush. I just picked up a 2003 325ci convertible, drove it home 900 miles, and am impressed with the roominess. I am 6'4". They are in the same price range and this one was extremely well maintained. The suspension was replaced with OEM and it handles wonderfully.

I'm 6'2" and agree that the 944 fits like a glove. The '03 and up Accord also feels good for us tall people, I put a lot of miles on my father's Accord before I had my own car.

What do you think about the Jeep Cherokee (XJ, h/o models from '93-'01)? Tall people fit well and it has off road ability without being too big or annoying on road. It's a simple and somewhat crude design but they're dead nuts reliable and are dirt cheap. I test drove a lot in 2012 or so, and was pleasantly surprised.

For my two cents..If you're looking for a reliable and hard to beat car...get a Toyota Camry about 92-95 model. Then put in a Recaro seat for the drivers side. I love mine, and if you perform basic maintenance on it you might be able to beat mine with only 430K on it... with original engine and automatic trans...never rebuilt either...dead nuts an "iron" car even up here in the salty roads of New Hampster....jus sayin..tiger 03447 BTW..They are cheap too..I still 39 MPG on the Hwy with the 4 cyl.

I am 6'6 and even with manual seats my head brushes the headliner in an XJ.
I would very much love to have one but I'd need to figure that out first...or just sit on the floor

I put in a set of sparco seats and am sitting much lower & it's a much more fun ride

I had the S and S2 for a while and it worked out pretty well, that said the S was already caught up and i trusted it. I didn't really expect both to break at the same time but in the end i decided i wasn't driving the S enough and sold it.

Try a late 90's saab 900, my dad is 6'6" and fits in my new alternate DD 97 saab 900se 5dr quite well. He borrowed it once while his 997 was in the shop and suddenly was talking about how he should get a cheap early 2000's saab 900/9-3 as a winter/alternate car. I paid $1200 for my 97 and put about $600 in it and its pretty solid.

ON my side, I do drive my 88 n/a as a daily driver, and so forth so good.

Yes, if it's properly maintained and up to spec I don't see any issues with daily driving one. Two is better than one haha! I have made an effort to daily drive my cab as much as I can in the spring/summer/fall months.

I had two as my only means of transportation for a couple years. Now I have none and drool every time I see one. I used the 924s as the DD but too many break downs led me to sell it. The 944 was a project car. Though they were never both broken down at the same time, so it seems reasonable that you could have 2 as your only means of transportation.

I have pared the stable down a lot, but at one time I had an 87 951, 90( or was it 89) S2 Cab, and a 93 968 Tip with 248k on the clock.

So yeah I had them all as daily drivers but spent way to much time working on them

Another perspective...I have a few cars to choose from but I like driving the 944's the most and drive them weeks on end on a daily basis. Keep up with maintenance and you won't have a problem and will get to work with a smile on your face. imo there is nothing more disheartening for a car enthusiast than daily driving a Toyota Camry to work. It's almost humiliating and not the way I choose to start my day off.

I to am 6'6" and drove my 951 as a daily for a year. I don't think I would mind daily driving another one again, however the maintance can be a bit much on two of them

I will also ad that the most reliable car that I have ever had was a volvo 940. They are somewhat fun to drive, rear drive, nice riding, and in turbo form fairly quick cars. They are extremely easy to work on and are very inexpensive to buy parts for. If you do get one, buy a 1993 to 1995 turbos as they are the best of the bunch. I miss my 93 turbo wagon very much to this day. Mine had a larger turbo and was very quick for what it was.
