ATTN: Florida
I'm getting my "what to do list" together for my relocation to Tampa.
I have a couple of questions.
Does florida have emission checking. And if so how hard is it to pass?
Do they check other things like lights, horn, parking brake?
Will the age of the car matter, exempt status if over 20 years.
Thanks,

Good question.. I have been looking into relocating Florida as well. I was wondering about emissions and "exempt" status..
I lived in Jax about 12 years ago and I dont remember any, but times do change.
and I'm looking at Orlando specifically.
TIA

Chris,
Orlando rocks. Specifically move to the town of Oviedo. You will thank me later. It is an awesome town with good people and a very cool police force.
AFAIK there is no emissions checking in Florida. I know there are no inspections like stupid NC.

nope, no emissions... bye bye to my cat soon
if you like the metro areas, orlando is cool. i personally like smaller town life better, but i go to school in the bloated small town of Daytona Beeatch.
we have monthly gtg's in the orlando area that no one seems to like to attend but myself, Florida 951(occasionally, he's a loser too), and Davstar 120. so c'mon down and join us! you'll love the year-round driving .

I'm up for monthly gtg's also some maintanence days would be good.
One thing I'll miss is my S really likes it when the temps drop into the 30's and 40's.
It almost feels like a turbo.

Yeah cold air does good things for engines...it sometimes gets that cold here in the winter time. But it doesn't snow, so you don't have to winter store the car.
Also, no emissions in Florida

Tampa, huh. Cool. My wife is from Clearwater so we go back at least once a year. I'm from Ft. Myers (about 12 yrs removed).
There's a lot to do in the area. You'll enjoy it. Lots of great fishing and diving.
Enjoy.

Great man I live in Saint Petersburg on the other side of Tampa Bay. My cat has been off since they stopped the emissions back in 2001 I think. The cold air does good things to the turbo engine in the winter that's if we can get it cold here Would like to meet you one day if you move down here.

Maybe I'll need to throw a "get to know me" Kegger when I get there.
I'm hoping to move by Christmas, it all depends on how long it will take to sell my house.
Although with interest rates as low as they are it shouldn't take to long.
Now I just need to figure out how I am going to move 2 944's. The auto transporters I've talked with all want around $1500.00.
I wonder if I can fit them in the back of a U-Haul

As Monty Hall would say "Come on Down"... Well guess the other guys answered your question about emissions testing. Here in south Florida in Broward County they don't have any either. Ft. Lauderdale is a "FUN" city to live in, especially if you like the water, lots of boating activities down this way. Hope some time to get up to one of the Orlando gatherings, used to live up that way, in Kissimmee, just south of Orlando. Hope the move goes good and will chat with you later.

Jim I notice you are in the Tampa bay area. We should have a warm welcome when he moves down here. Hopefully by then I will have a paint job and my body damage done.
