Yet another good thing about the 944!!
Went golfing last night - four of us AND our Golf bags (almost just typed "bags" - but realized the jokes to follow).
We headed out to the driveway and I started opening the rear hatch of the 944. My friends said, "Ahhhh - we know you like the Porsche, but wouldn't the Sidekick with the roof off be a better choice???"
After a large amount of attempts to load four guys and four Golf bags into the Sidekick, we gave up. Sure the seats will hold four people, but there is no place for the bags - limited space behind the rear seat. Having the roof off didn't help at all. I headed back towards the Porsche. One guy said, "I'll just take the pick-up truck and you guys can get in the back....". After explaining to him that my name is neither Bo nor Luke, I proceeded to lift up the hatch on the Porsche. "Good luck", they said.
Not a big problem. Two guys in front (close to the dash, mind you, but not overly uncomfortable). Two in back. Three bags in the hatch and one across the legs of the guys in back. We could have put the forth bag in the back, but it was resting on top of another bag and I didn't want it hitting the window on turns or hitting the guys in the back seat in the back of the head.
Try doing that in another Porsche or any other "sports car" for that matter.
I couldn't fit it all in an "SUV", but the 944 came through.
Got some interesting looks at the course when four guys and their Golf bags stumbled out of a Porsche.
Anyone else have any "this is how much I fit in the 944" stories?????

Met my friend at the mall to help him buy a new IMAC PC. The monitor came in a square box that wouldnt fit into his Honda trunk. It DID fit into the back of my 944 (seats folded down)!

IIRC, i beleive AMAF had like 8 people closed in the hatch section alone... funny thats about all i remember from that story, i think it had something to do with a truck...

i got a full-size recliner in the back of mine once . . . .couldn't close the hatch, but we risked bungee cords-- recliner AND hatch survived . . . . . .
also, andyK, those iMac boxes sure are BIG, but the eMac box is even BIGGER . . .I had to put that on the passenger's seat . . . .

I move to & from college with mine:
2 computer towers (large midtowers)
1 monitor (19")
5.1 comptuer speaker setup
3 large garbage bags full of clothes & sheets
2 guitars (one electric & one bass)
1 12" practice amp
5 shoeboxes (size 12 shoes) full of wires & assorted items
4 12 packs of soda
My toolbox
Floorjack
4 Jackstands
5x 12"long pieces of 2x4 for "padding" with jack
Laundry Hamper (about 3' tall, 2'x1' oval diameter)
about 40 textbooks
AND I still had NOTHING touching any of the windows, pretty decent visability out all of the windows (including the rear) and had nothing impeding my driving position (i.e. didn't move my seat at all).
Actually started to run into a problem with the suspension sagging, guess I'll just need some stiffer springs .
EDIT: Forgot I sent a couple things with my cousin (TV, 5 shoe boxes & a 17" monitor). I probalby could've fit the shoeboxes stacked up in the passenger footwell, but if I had taken a hard turn they could've slid into the shifter....not making me happy.

Ya - I've often wondered how much we could put in the back with the seats down and the hatch open.
A recliner? Wow!
You don't realize just how much room we have until you try putting things in I guess.
I had like a $400 grocery order a few weeks ago - it was like 15-20 (or more) bags. When I pulled up to Parcel Pick-Up in the Porsche, I could see the guys working there looking at me like, "Ya, good one....". I stepped out, popped the hatch, folded the seat down and watched them all go, "Wow - it's big back here"!!!. Then when I pointed out that you can put beer and ice in the wheel-wells and the ice will drip out of the drain holes - they REALLY liked it.

Try doing that in another Porsche
I've fit a ton of crap back there before, including about 12 bags of mulch in the hatch alone. Helped move my friend into his apartment too. We fit a rediculous amount of stuff in my car that day, more than in my friend's Sonata.

Me and a friend use to fit 2 Moutainbikes and spare parts clothing and lunch package in the back, when going for MTB trips. Still lot of space left for luggage under the fold down rear seat.

Oh man! Have I fit people and things into my 1987 924S? I once drove 8 people in the car. I had me driving, 2 in the front passenger seat, 3 in the back seat and 2 in the trunk.
Recently I bought these two huge wicker chairs from Pottery Barn. The guys on the loading dock swore I would never get one chair in the car let alone two. Needless to say I got both in the car and drove home with a huge smile on my face.
You gotta love these cars.

AMAF Jr., although this story seems beleivable, as there's no ghetto-race scenario involved. these stories are good. i too also fit all my college stuff in my car with plenty and i mean plenty of room to see out the back and sides. great cars, underappreciated by the general public, and plenty big for just about anyone.
