Default What colour (and paint) for cam cover?

Going in to do the cam chain tensioner this weekend (or next) and want to refinish the ratty cam cover.

This is on an Alpine White S2.

Have a look at the photos and suggest colours.

I was thinking white cam cover (gloss or flat??) with black lettering for the "PORSCHE"

Oh, and just thought of the reverse - BLACK cover with WHITE letters.

Thoughts?

Also how best to refinish this and what type of paint will work well?

TIA!

RK

This is what I did.....

And this is what I used....

The Red lettering was done by hand using an acrylic enamel.

Flat paint will show every finger print, and oil smudges will be next to impossible to clean. Satin paint might be a better choice and still not be too glossy. This is a low sheen but still cleans up nice. Doesn't appear to retain oil and dirt like regular rattle can Aluminum paint does.

Wow - that's sweet looking. Hope you don't mind if I go that route - looks amazing - well done!

Thanks for the tips and inspiration.

How'd you "prep" the cover?

I'm in the process of painting mine red (the car is Guards Red) with black Porsche script. I saw this done on a S2 and thought it looked really sharp.

How'd you "prep" the cover?
First, I took it off, and then ran it through my parts washer to clean the inside well. Then I washed it in detergent (soap and water), then took wax and grease remover to it. I sanded it with 200 grit to get the corrosion off and to smooth out any rough spots. Then I primed it with a red oxide primer, then a grey primer to hide the red. Sanded again with 400 grit, blew it off and put about four coats of the SEM on. I allowed it to dry a couple of days and then painted the red with a size 0 hair brush. I put two coats of red on. I only painted the outside of the cover.
I also did the intake and timing belt top cover to match. One thing with this paint is make sure you shake the can well and often.
Prep it well and it will look good no mater what color you paint it.

I beadblasted mine, parts washed it, and then primered it, and now I'm in the process of painting/clearcoating it.

i like the silver with red lettering. mine is silver with black lettering - i thought it coordinated with the black and silver in the engine bay fairly well without being too assertive.

Yes it is. The engine bay pictures were taken prior to me doing the clutch and refinishing the cam cover and intake.

Buy it now!
