Exclamation UPDATED: Catching a Plane to Get a 968

Is there anyone in this forum who can look up VINs like there is in the 928 forum? I am interested in buying a car that I would like to pull up the option codes on. It is out of state.

Thanks.

Jeff Coe runs the PCA 968 registry. He's been working on the website: http://968register.org/

He goes by jeff968 on this board; not sure how often he's around, but you can PM him.

Ok thanks, I am in the process of also getting the hatch sticker sent to me via DROID.

I may take a trip out to see it this weekend. It appears to be Zenith Blue Metallic (which I thought was only a 986 and 996 color).

Wow if this goes well I'm back in the 924/944/968 tank with everyone!

Instead of starting a new thread, I might as well ask here....I just purchased another 944 and it doesn't have the trunk sticker. Can anyone run my vin? Thanks!

Update: The car is L37E which is violet blue metallic. Year is 1992. I want it. Going to make arrangements..

I consider this a girly color, however at least the wife will have a toy.. Kinda sad that she gets the manual and I am driving an automatic 928 S4.

Mongo... Post over on the 968 board here. Jeff is very helpful and responsive.

BTW - great find. If its a Coupe, it is 1 of 7. If its a Cab - 1 of 1.

I am booking a flight to Vegas now and will be leaving tomorrow evening to get it.

Vin decoding shows exclusive options such as some sort of wood shifter (XC9) and color coded wheels (XD4 & XD9).

The car is a coupe. There is a very sad story behind it though.

It sounds like NS820350. I saw the car years ago at the Parade in Hershey in 2005. If that is the car it also has cloth script seats. I have full databases on the NA 968s. The color is actually called Violet Blue Metallic. Of the 7 Code 57 Violet Blue metallic coupes 6 had tips and 1 (NS820350) was a 6 speed.

The car has seat covers on it. I don't have any pics of the covers off. My plans to fly out today have been postponed to next week thanks to work-related obligations.

By the way, the car is a 6-speed, and it originally came from Utah. I don't believe we are talking about the same car here.

Post the last 3 digits of the VIN and I'll let you know what I have on it.

The only made 3 in 1992 in Violet Blue metallic:
NS820350 - light grey/classic grey interior, 6 spd
NS820655 - light grey/classic grey interior, tip
NS820699 - black interior, tip

What did I tell you!

Below are the production details on the car:

North American 968 Register production profile – Coupe NS820350
• NA 968 coupe 1992-1995 Production sequence number of 2,234: #290
• NA 968 coupe 1992 Production sequence number of 649: #290
• Exterior Color statistics: 1 of 7 Code 57 Violet Blue metallic coupes
• Exterior/Interior Color combo stats: 1 of 3 Code 57 Violet Blue metallic coupes paired with a light grey/classic grey interior
• Factory options with option codes:
o Special metallic paint in code 57 Violet blue metallic
o XD4 Painted crest center caps
o XD9 Painted wheels, body color
o 418 Body side moldings
• Comments: January or February 1992 build date. Of the 7 coupes in code 57, only 1 was a manual. Car has the standard Porsche script cloth seats. Only 3 coupes came with the code "BJ" partial cloth seats in light grey.

This is a very rare 968. Can't wait to see some photos.

Jeff
