Smile STIFF CLUTCH, MASTER/SLAVE/CLUTCH? INPUT PLEASE

Hi there gents,

We have a 951 (944 Turbo) that was returned by an ex-employee and well let's just say that it sounds great however the clutch peddle is so stiff we cannot engage to get into gear.

When the vehicle is off we can place it in great and start in gear but no changing

Anyhow, we are looking for your feedback, maybe percentage of you who would think that it might be a clutch, slave/master cylinder issue... Your experience and input is appreciated.

When my clutch failed, the little center springs broke & got twisted. I was able to push in the clutch but it wouldn't go into gear. Turning off the motor was the only way it would go into gear. I recall the clutch pedal being stiff but still drivable because I limped home in 2nd gear. Hope this helps.

When you say that the clutch pedal is stiff, is it merely difficult to depress, or does it not move at all?

Thanks for your question: the pedal does not go down at all. Almost feels like there is a rubber bumper preventing any more travel, so no movement at all beyond a couple of mm....

Remove he clutch slave on the bellhousing while leaving the line connected and see if you get more movement from the clutch pedal, be careful with the pedal as you can pop the slave piston out if the pedal is depressed to quickly. If you can move the pedal and see the slave working, you have problems with the clutch itself. If its the same, its the Clutch master/slave subsystem giving you problems.

Just spoke with my tech who actually recalls riding with the ex-employee, after speaking with him last night he confirmed that the clutch was slipping... Well I guess we will be swapping out a clutch soon....

Anyone have any recommendations as far as price/performance (keeping in mind that this is a budget car), we may sell it so we don't want to pour too much in.

We don't work on too many 944/951 cars to keep up on all the goodies out there..

Check the linkage to the pedal.
There is a "power spring" which is supposed to make the clutch action feel lighter (and is adjustable).

Sometimes the little rod breaks and jams under the dash...
