I want one in the $3-400 ruing, I don't need blue tooth, or GPS, just a basic radar detector, what are you guys using?

IMHO they arn't worth much these days since 50% of the time they'll get you with "instant on" or laser.

I agree they are not much use. tractor trailers have some device on them now that set off detectors and cars that have advance breaking sensors set them off. I have a V1 and although it is a great detector not much use any more it goes off all the time.

Here is mine - radar lover and love the Escort Max2 (have them in all the cars). You can go cheaper with the 9500ix (had these in all the cars beofre the Max2 came out)

I use one I got in Best Buy years ago - it's a Beltronics V8 and it has been absolutely fantastic. It has saved me countless times. You do get a lot of false positives in some areas, but you can sometimes tell the difference, and even when you can't, that doesn't mean it's useless.

I had good luck w/ an Escort Passport 8500 several years back- I know it's been replaced multiple times over since then, but it was a workhorse at the time. Couple friends of mine swore by the Valentine units, but there was a pretty solid price difference at the time. Not sure how that plays out now, though, but they were really nice detectors, and the remote display was a pretty slick setup as well.

Not 100% sure I'd bother anymore considering how much cops use laser since it's not detectable until it's too late, but that's going to depend pretty heavily on where you live and what your local force uses.

I second V1 coupled with Waze. In addition, scan the road and look far ahead.

Waze is a great tool. I have a very old escort 7500 that has saved me MANY times, including a couple against laser. But the fact is the police have the technology advantage, so radar/laser detectors can help, but are far from a guarantee of safety. In other words if you speed a lot, it will probably help you reduce the number of speeding tickets, but it can't eliminate them. If you have the money, laser jammers are legal in most states last I looked.

Won't help, the rest of the car is far to reflective for a stealth bra to do anything.

V1+waze is the best you can do right now IMO, however they are only effective if *IF* there is some traffic around. If you are alone instant on will own you in a no traffic situation, you need other cars around that the cop is gunning so you can pick up their radar emissions. Waze doesn't help if there is no one around to report the cop.

That is a very accurate breakdown of when a radar detector helps, although I still run into a few cops sitting their with their radar on that I get warnings for and it works for the speed cameras.

I do most of my driving on major roads/highways during the day so Waze works great for me, but someone has to be the first to see the cop and report them, so can't be perfect either.

I bought my first radar detector back in the 80's and it was like a license to speed. There are just no guarantees anymore.

i am interested in the V1, currently running a redline that has saved my a$$ numerous times.

any radar detector is better than none.
any radar detector plus the waze app is better than the above.
a good radar detector plus the waze app and open eyes is better than the above.
then we get into laser jammers and stuff.
