Default Manual Steering Rack Tie Rods

While replacing my strut inserts I saw that my old male tie rod ends long gone. I have to change the inner rods too, which are most likely just as old anyway. Anyone have experience with deutschepartsusa? Besides old OEM stock ($$$) these are the only reproductions I have found that look like they have the rubber insulated section and are reasonably priced. Specifically http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-944-...vuDR5A&vxp=mtr.

1984 - 944
Thanks,

I don't have any experience with deutschepartsusa, but I only have good things to say about 944online.

I swapped out my power steering rack for a manual rack about a year ago with the tie rod assembly from 944online and it's still solid to this day.

..or you can use the direct-fitting 1992 VW Jetta parts and avoid the "944online tax"...
get the manual steering parts.

While you can't really go wrong with 944online, I have to agree that sometimes they are a little steep. The trade off is, Ian and Steve know their stuff on these cars, and if there is any questions (and there often can be on these cars) they will make sure you get the right part. Plus there is just something cool about buying Germans parts from a guy with an English accent! LOL Plus I LOVE the kits they put together!

I'm going to have to file that Jetta info into the "good to know when the time comes" category.

Is there an 87 up similar tie rod end for when you are putting the manual rack on an 87 up car like 968?

Thanks

For late offset & manual rack you need these:

Got the moog tie rods today They are dirt cheap, 11€/peace.

The long moog number is VO-AX-7181, the other VW number for this part is TA1283

Manual rack bellows/boot alternative numbers are Seinsa D9014 and D9090

And these:

Lockheed - Delphi TA770, also ,BMW : 3211 1116 463, Volvo : 3211955 - 3265974 ,Volkswagen : 171 419 812

Bottom one on this picture is 89 power steering

Hey V2Rocket,

Your option is great for saving some cash! Would I go with the wonky ends of the jetta too? Or would I need to get theses:

reminds me of one time a guy was describing his custom 951 intake manifold and they were going to use velocity stacks "bell mouths" with 100mm length but he kept on writing "100mm bell ends"

Another question is, what's the deal with tie rod end thread. It looks like the Jetta manual inner rods are male ended and so are the 944 outer tie rod ends. So I guess use the Jetta tie rod ends too? It looks like the power/manual steering rod ends are the same. Is that correct?

odonnell,
Right, new tie rods have male outer thread. My current 944 ends have male thread. Which means I can't get a totally "correct" setup. My thought was I could get 944 power steering ends that do not have the bend in the tie rod end like the Jetta's. It would then look close to 944 Online's setup. Female ends, male inners (with the female connection to the rack). I think the bend in the Jettas rod could make the alignment/installation harder.

It looks like the main difference between the manual and power 944 rod ends is the male vs female thread on them. So yeah, that should work.
