Default Battery Tender

Ok so I searched this time and didn't find a clear cut thread on this. What the best battery tender for our cars? The OEM Porsche one is $120. There has to be a better option for less. Or is this it? Thank in advance for any suggestions.

You can get good one from AZ for about 25-30 dollars. I have four of them on various vehicles. They won't overcharge the battery either.

I don't like using a battery tender. They seem to cause the water to boil out of the battery. The cut off voltage is a bit high for my liking. If you have to use some kind battery maintainer, a old A/C adapter actually works petty good and they don't have the output to boil the water out. That's my 2 cents.

I've used the Battery Tender Jr. for 12+ years in my 944 and have not replaced the battery. Highly recommended. A good microprocessor controlled float charger should never cause a battery to offgas like a trickle charger will.

i guess if you have to store the car for winter but can't you just disconnect a battery for that?

+1 on Ctek ... Porsche OE maintainer is made by Ctek. I use a Ctek on my 996 when it's down for the winter months. Works perfectly.

Check this out:

http://www.batterychargers.com/ps-1562a/

Have several in service at same time and they work perfectly. Read up on them, they also do de-sulfation. Price is right too; if you sign up for their emails they have them on sale for $16.99.

And you can go tech with remote model:

Get the a CTEK or a $25 Battery Tender Jr. I have one on every vehicle I own any time it won't be driven for the next couple of days. Some CTEKs have a "supply" mode which can put out 5A and act as a 12V power supply, which comes in handy. They also have a "winter" mode that (I think) keeps the battery at 80% which is best for longevity if the car won't be driven for months.

Even the cheap Battery Tender Jr has a computer that is smart enough to charge and maintain the battery with the optimal current cycle. They are not to be confused with trickle chargers of yore that just spit current into the battery until they fried.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm either going to get Tender Jr or the Plus. Wish I didn't need one but this car is not my dd.

I have 4 from AZ..they all work fine and don't kill the battery. Lawnmower (rider) battery, generator battery and a one for the spare car...and I picked up another one "just because" they were on sale..for a spare..
